No Boost In 3rd gear

My car wants to sometimes no pull and boost in third gear. More often than not, I just redid most of the vacuum lines, and it didn't a) change anything, b) Make anything work better. Why would it not pull any boost only in third gear. These happen before the vacuum line fixin. Its making me mad cuz it only let me run a 16.5 and that is sad for a rx7.

I have all stock, but boost controller, and Tt. They are still seq, and are stock.

OK,

When it doesn't boost in third and you let off the gas, does it make strange sound? If so, I'd bet it's the TCA. Mine was doing this and I eventually went non-seq because of it.

twstd rx,

Can you go into a little more detail about this? I have this problem on occasion and would like to know what may be causing it.

I'll try, but admittedly I'm not very good with rotaries. I've only had mine since May.

My car would boost correctly most of the time when I nailed it in any gear but after a gear change it wouldn't boost and when I let off the gas it would make a very strange sound. Once you get back on the boost it would work again but only for one or two gear changes. I couldn't make it through three or more gears with boost. It wasn't a whoosh like boost blowing off but a much different sound.

I took my car to Ryan for the "dont be a rikki" non-seq mod. It was Ryan who told me that sound was the TCA
Turbo control actuator, I believe is it's actual name.

Going non-seq fixed my boost problems. Since pulling the TCA is part of the non-seq mod I assumed it was indeed the cause of my boost problems.

It's my guess that the TCA was sticking and not allowing the turbos to boost. I'm sure Ryan would be able to help much more so than myself.

Hope it helps,
Andrew

Can I just replace the Tca, and if so where do I find it? It also just started leaking boost, and bad. Before it was boostin' 14psi, now only 4 or 5. Trying to fix by friday so I can redeem myself at the track.

I have a similar problem with my car. Sometimes i get full boost sometimes i dont. It usually happens in first and second gear. My hoses have already been changed to silicone. As soon as i get the chance i'll be going Non Sequential, im sick of having to worry about my boost pattern....

I have the same problem, and still searching for the answer. I have spoken with a lot of ppl and they are all saying get rid of the seq. I might have to go that way b/c its killing me. now you have it, now you don't , you just can't predict when its gonna go smoothly. All those vaccum lines, all the headache. screw it , if I have a little more lag in lower rpms, I'll just have to ride the clutch a little harder I guess. arrahrhrhahharh

Is your car completely stock? I sure hope you aren't running 14 psi with the stock precat. I didn't think that was possible.

I can't believe I'm typing this but you should do a search and read some of sections for newbies. I'd hate to see you pop your motor running high boost without the correct mods. 14 psi needs lots of mods and I'm not the one that should be giving you advice on what to do. I'm not nearly qualified.

The best advice I can give you is to slow down and learn about your car OR find a QUALIFIED mechanic to work on it for you. Don't just believe a mechanic if he says he can fix it, make sure you find one that is knowledgable about our cars.

had the same problem with mine. sometimes it would have full boost other times it will boost a little bit 2-3 and go back down. and than come back up when you change gear to about 4-5 and then go whoooossshsshhshs really loud. WTF got tired of it and went non-seq don't be a rikki has a good how to and if you search there are other how tos as well. ryan is a cool guy. very helpful and patient. you da man ryan. the only down side i have more lag now.. full boost around 4k rpm. hopefully this will be lower when i get an ecu or have the wastegate ported!!!! good luck. rip that rat's nest **** out..... i cut it out with a dremel tool.... made me feel better

Not sure how porting the wastegate will help with turbo lag
