New scuff / sill plates?

Hi All,

Just bought an 1993 RX7 RS EFINI and it is in mint condition except one thing, the scuff plates on the sills. They are quite badly scuffed and it takes something away from the rest of the car (to me anyway). I have had a good look around the net for some replacement plates but I can only find generic ones (MOMO etc).

Does anybody know where I could get some plates from that either say RX7 or Mazda. A UK based site would be preferable but I am willing to import.

Thanks,
Flateric

I can get you plates - best two options would be OEM (mazda) or Feed (who do an expensive, but attractive faux CF set).

not sure if this pic will work, as their website is being a bit dodgy:

you could try dealing direct with feed (fujita engineering) - as they'll probably get you a better price than me (obviously): feed@pac-gate.co.jp

There is that option as well. You might like that. About half way down the page.

These scratch easily? I noticed they're stainless, so maybe somewhat scratch resistant.

I just received the CF scuff plates from attila@atihun.com. They look nice and I hope to "get over" the install suggested on his site.

Yes, they do scratch up. I ended up painting mine black.

They scrath very easily. I had mine on for only a couple hours before I started to see scrathes. The scrathes are from the bottom of the door which I guess is hanging a little lower than usual.

The OEM sill plates aren't stainless, no matter what Rotary Performance's site says. I had the RX-7 logo stamped out of mine, had them polished, then clear anodized, then changed my mind and had them powder coated. The weight alone should be enough clue that they're aluminum, but having the logo removed and having them anodized would have been quite a bit more difficult if they were stainless.

Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda (888 533 3400) has the oem plates for $140, and he will ship internationally.

$140 is a good price for a pair of the Mazda stamped AL plates. The factory plastic sill plates are much cheaper. MSRP is $43.30 each.

fd01-68-710A-02 Right Black
fd01-68-720A-02 Left Black

A little advice for newbies...
If you want to know what any factory parts costs, Download the parts fiches from here, http://www.iluvmyrx7.com/3rd_gen_manuals.htm
Find the part number for the part(s) you want and then hit your favorite parts.com websiteand enter the part number. You don't have to buy from them, but it will give you an idea for what it costs. My current favorite is http://www.worldpartsexpress.com/, their discount is about the same as Ray Crowe's but they charge shipping. The pair of OEM sill plates is $62.28 + shipping

BTW, the Mazda part number for the stamped shiny plates is FD01-V1-370G.
Got that part number here: http://www.mazdastuff.com/directory.cfm?CategoryID=81

have fun..

The OEM plates scratch, scuff and dent very easily. I have a new extra pair in case I ever sell the car.

When I called Malloy Mazda last week to order some small parts, I was told that they now charge $5 for shipping on all orders under a certain amount ($140 or 150, can't recall).

I never knew that OEM plates could come in Aluminum as well. Are they any different than the RX7.com ones? and both scratch really easy? I would probably just go with OEM plastic tan ones, just like I have now...

My 94 base car came stock with black plastic sill pieces that covered the weld but left a good part of the painted door sill uncovered.

The optional, expensive brushed aluminum (with gold "RX7" trim) sill plates cover more of the sill, but are fragile. They are (were?) sold by Mazda as an accessory for the RX7.

The ones sold on RX7.com appear to be these, but mine are brushed aluminum, not "polished stainless", whatever that means.
