a new high! 158 mph!
Today, after a nice wash and wax job, I headed out to my "racetrack" for a little fun, and after a nice long run, I can report a new sustained top speed of 158 mph!
I know this is chump change to some of you, but to me it marks a new high......
Man, what a car! Once again, kudos to Mazda for making such a magnificent beast! No, wait...beast is inappropriate....the FD is truly a sophisticated world class car.
Son of a bitch, these cars are FAST!!!!!

Adrenaline junkie!!!
I know the feeling. On the way back from Sevenstock 4, my friend/ co-pilot and I left Venice Beach, Los Angeles (we stayed with my cousin) at 1am after stopping at the gas station to double check fluid levels and tire pressure and lugnuts etc. We arrived in Burlingame, CA (about 10 mins south of SF) at exactly 5 am. That included a 20 min gas/pis stop cooldown session. We topped the car out at approximately 168mph on Highway 5, the speedo was just past 170 mark and we got it on video passing first a semi at 140 manuevering in out of very light traffic. It opened up then I opened the beutiful bitch up and took it to 170. The background music was Crystal Method "Get Busy Time". It was ******* awesome. I don't think the car was ever under 120 except when the beartracker picked up a cop and sure enough there he was. 70 mph for a few miles then we cut up to 85 then 280. thank god for the beartracker!

I hit 160 on a major Texas highway in my fairly-stocked '93... intake, downpipe, and exhaust are the only mods pretty much. Supposedly the previous owner of my car got it to 175, but after 160 I haven't been inspired to take it that fast again.

I could only imagine how much we would LOVE a guy if he invented the American Autobaun. No speed limit and perfectly legal
But, these silly Americans will never do it

140+ in any amount of Traffic is insane!
bajaman:
Did you check how many RPM you were pulling @158?
So far my personal best is only 145 (traffic limited) but she still had much more to give.
RedR1:
100 tons of CONCRETE gets you about 200 FEET of Two lane Hwy.

I don't think 140+ in any amount of traffic is insane... as long as you have an ample stretch from the car in front of you in the fast lane, getting to 140 should be a matter of seconds...

All i have to say is be careful. Yeah I know how much fun speed can be, but no matter what, traveling at those speeds can lead to some serious danger on the street, on the track, whatever, there's always that potential for problems. No matter how much control you think you have, there's always one thing you can't control...the other drivers....I'm not trying to preach to you or anything, but i've lost 2 people to car accidents that could have been easily avoided.
just have fun but make sure to keep it safe, is all.

on the way hometo FL there is a stretch of I95 in south carolina that is all bridge with thick trees in the middle. i believe its about two miles long. in other words they wont get you unless you fly past them or are being tracked by a chopper. even then i dont think the chopper could keep up
i fly through there at around 4 am after work when i get leave.
