New here, noob question!

Hi all,

I am new to the community here, I am a WRX owner, who is transitioning to an FD RX-7. Will post pics soon. I was looking into exhaust systems, which one would you all recommend if I want it loud, but then a silencer option so I can run quieter. I was looking at HKS HI-Power, Apexi N1....etc. I want a clean looking melon shooter . Any suggestions? Which sounds best?

Thanks, look forward to talking on the forums with you all,

Greg

Oh ya, like what? 700? or 1200? or 1500? what? I wouldnt mind spending $750 and lower, since I feel exhaust is a key component to modding a car. My WRX exhaust was ummm 1450 bucks, (up-pipe, downpipe, turboback deal).

Sound is subjective, unfortunately. Every person on here will tell you a different exhaust combination sounds "the best", to them.

The HKS exhausts are typically fairly loud. I have that specific one now and will have it up for sale here shortly. It's a good exhaust however many people have had issues with the brace for the hanger. It has broken on several people. I haven't had mine on the car long enough to have an issue with the hanger.

IMO, first pick the "look" of the exhaust that you want. Single, double, angled straight, etc.. That will narrow down your choices.

You want loud, go with the n1 dual tip. It will **** off everyone within a 5 mile radius. The n1 single tip has a better look and is not so insanely loud. Just pm me what you want and I will get you the best pricing on it.

I have that exhaust. The sound is really the opinion of each person. I like it. The noise level doesn't get too loud until you hit 3000 rpm (stock setup) and above. I did notice that it flowed better than the stock exhaust.

I'll jump in with two requests:
1) post your pics in the special thread for car pictures
2) Don't replace your stock main cat until you've familiarized yourself with the boost control and fuel system limitations of the car. Check out the FAQ thread. Installing just a cat-back should be no problem.

Ok I will do so. Power FC is to follow the exhaust and some Coilovers. I want simple tasteful mods.

Greg, I saw the jealousy in your face when we were going out to Mt. Diablo... It was only a matter of time before you'd return to rotaries... haha

I'm assuming that this FD you're getting will be completely stock. Remember to look into -all- of the reliability mods* if you want it to last longer with less problems. I was lucky enough to purchase mine with almost everything reliability wise done to it. Best part, all of these so called 'reliability' modifications will unlock gobs of power on top of keeping your FD healthy.

*boost/water gauges, downpipe, HF cat or midpipe, cat back, intercooler, intake, pfc, etc.

and get it tuned!!
