new to the forum and having a small issue
hi every one , great board you have here
my name is Rami im from bahrain ME , i have been surfing the RX7 forums for a while now because for me it's a JDM that never gets old .
now i would like to start a project FD3S but im having a hard time figuering out how to start, im a perfectionist and i dont want to endup with a screwed up FD so im thinking of getting a naked shell and starting the whole thing my self fitting the car with evry nut and bolt my self, what do you think of that ? or should i just buy a good running FD and continue from there ?
would appreciate the feedback
regards
Rami

It depends, are you going to stay with the rotary or would you ever consider the LS1 swap? If the swap is an option for you I would get a rolling chassis and get everything the way you want it before you decide on power methods...
For a project car that will still have modifications on the stock design, start with a well running car. Parts are so expensive that you don't want to build from the ground up if you don't have to. Especially in a country where you don't have easy access to them.
Now if you're talking about completely fabricating a body, all custom interior parts, a whole different engine, (a really HUGE project like a contending show car or purpose-built racecar), then maybe the rolling shell will be a better platform since you'll be throwing away all of the stock stuff.

i would never consider the LS1 swap no offince but ls1's belong in camaros and vettes, im going with a 3 rotor single turbo setup, and no the car isnt for show purposes nor raceing, just buliding a car for my own joy , nothing big around 500-600 HP i beleive that this is nothing on a 3rotor engine, but yet i dont trust buying a car from some guy for say 18grands and it doesnt even run proply , i would rather buy a rolling shell for say 5000$ and spend the 13grands on it, bare in mind money is no issue, im seeking perfection here , coz if i do so i will the the first ad only 3 rotor FD in the ME.

Well i think you answered your own question. If you are going to start over with a 3rotor regardless if the stock engine works then I would get a solid rolling chassis. Try and find something with a blown motor rather than no motor. That way you can be pretty sure that the main reason its not being driven is just the motor.
the thing is im going full throttel over here, carbon fiber body parts ( i will paint them, im no ricer ) meaning obscene weight reduction but i will keep a stock interior coz i dont want to lose the comfort of driving the car , so i was thinking since im changing almost evry thing in the car why not start with a rolling chassis , and so we can all be on the same ground when i say rolling shell i mean a car that has no exterior part coz im going to change all that .
the matter is which is more convenient ??

From my experince as im a near by nighbour, i would suggest not to start from scratch. If you can get an FD with a blown or damaged engine, but very fine buddy or interior it would save u a lot.
I bought my FD with Damaged engine, but the Car was onle 20,000 milage and in an excellenct buddy and interior condition.
I i know a guy from Bahrain who owns 3 RX7, if you want me to hook u up with him ket me know. Also you may make a visit to saudi to check out a couple of FDs that might be potential for u to buy.
Cheers,
Talal

We have got 2 93 FDs R1 for sale:
one of them is with full Bult ons (exhaust, downpipe, turbo timer, intake, PFC...etc) the car is running, but it has a side slight hit on the door and few electricity issues. Asking $9,300 USD.
Second one, has some few parts on it (PFC, DP, Catback, intake and springs), but the engine needs overhaulling. The buddy and interior are in good condition. He is asking $6,500 USD.
For mine its considered the best one among them in terms of cleanlines and i bought it for $6.700 USD.
Let me know if any...
