neutral switch? car wont start?

so my car occasionally wont start. first it was like once every month now its getting more and more often. i cant get it out of my driveway right now.

i know for a fact its not the battery. i do not think its the starter either.

the car will start whenever i push start it. i'm starting to think its the neutral switch. it seems like it might be going off and on or something.. i dont know.

any ideas guys how do i disconnect the neutral switch? so i can just start the car without the clutch engaged.

this is driving me crazy. i dont have a second car so i gotta get this beast back up and running so i can get to work lol.

I had a similar problem. I ended up running new wires and installing an engine start button...

Here's a link to the thread, there was a lot of good info in there. Unfortunately none of it helped me too much, but maybe there is something to help you out.

There are two switches mounted on the clutch. The neutral switch is located on the back left side of the clutch pedal with the wires running over to the right side. You should remove the switch, cut the wires on the switch, and make a bypass harness by soldering the two wires together.

Did that to mine, and it starts EVERY time.

You might have a flat spot on your starter, which would explain why it works sometimes and doesn't work others. Do you hear a click (like when you have a dead battery) when your car doesn't want to start?

I had the same problem (engine would start...then would not...started once in a blue moon and progressed. Started when cold usually...then when warm it was Russian Roulette), there is a relay behind the panel on the lower left in front of fuse panel. The relay has to do with the clutch "IN" switch which prevents you from starting the engine with clutch out. You can make a jumper wire to remove the relay from the circuit and then the car will start every time...but can start with tranny in gear and clutch out. New rely will not fix problem. I'll try to get more info. and pictures...it's been a long time since I "fixed" the problem and can not recall which terminals I jumped at the relay.

If it doesn't start when you're testing it, tap it with a hammer. If that works, then it's time to get a new starter.

the petit racing "starter booster." it's just an overpriced relay with some ring terminals, but it brings a stronger 12V signal to the starter solenoid. this helps a lot of people, assuming your clutch switch is ok.
