Ignition switch wiring diagram?

Im trying to figure out which wire that comes out of the ignition switch, goes directly to the starter? there are several wires. Does anybody know which wire goes to the starter, or has a wiring diagram so I can figure it out? thanks

Hey it's Ernesto !! How's it going. I can help you with that. Coming out of the ignition switch is a BLACK/BLUE wire going to the starter cut relay behind the driver side kick panel. Out of that relay comes a Blue/White wire that goes to your Clutch switch on the pedal. Out of that switch comes a Black/red wire that goes to the Starter. Diagram is on page Z-24 in the manual. Really easy circuit.

The Black/Blue and Blue/White are large wires.

Report back Ernesto

Thanks! ok my plan is to cut the black/blue wire from behind the ignition switch, and attach it to my own wire which I will connect directlly to the starter, therefore bypassing all of the old wiring, the starter cut relay and clutch switch (im using a 10 guage wire). Im doing this to put a more "direct" 12 volts to the starter since I have some intermittent starting problems. I worked on my car before, but I always ask questions... are there any potential issues with this repair/rewiring?

Turns out my ignition switch IS brand new, I saw it for myself so I cannot see why this would not fix the problem. Anybody with opinions id really appreciate it, thanks!

Just put a small jumper across from the ignition Blue/Black wire over to the Clutch switch Red/Black. This bypasses the Starter cut relay and the clutch switch. There is a red/black wire split downstream that goes to the ECU for starting.

Now the thing that will be affected is your security feature. Bypassing it will not allow it to cut off the Starter in case of a breakin and attempted theft. A garage normally takes care of this though.

Oh, this is more complicating then I thought. Well I checked the voltage at the black/blue wire behind the ignition switch, and I had a strong 12.72 volt signal.

Basically your saying that if I cut the starter black/blue wire, and connect it to another wire that will be run directly to the starter, it will not work? Basically what im trying to do is make a direct connection between the ignition switch and the starter so that the car will start.

I still want to be able to use the key to start the car,im not sure if I have to use a relay or not? A jumper wire is a great idea, but I dont think its a permanent fix. What is exactly the best way to wire this directly from the igniton switch to the starter? sorry bout all the questions!

of course it will work. they are just pointing out simpler ways then you running a new wire all the way to the starter. just as i tried to get you to by-pass the security relay with 2 inches of wire and 2 male tabs. This is not that complicated homie. find 12 volts when the key is turned, tap into it and get it to the starter solenoid. It sounds like you could tap into the security relay blk/blue wire and run it directly to the starter as well.

Just put a small jumper across from the ignition Black/Blue wire over to the Clutch switch Red/Black.

The above bypasses all switches and relays Ernesto.

If you want, cut the black/blue wire from the ignition and run a new wire from it over to the Red/black wire on the clutch switch.

Go to the Clutch pedal, take a strong flashlight with you. Up on top of the pedal look for a small switch with a connector. Disconnect the connector. The connector will have two wires - a Blue/White and a Black/red. The black and red is what you want ( I mistakenly said red/black earlier ).

The Black and red wire goes directly to the starter, ECU, EL unit and Diagnostic box.

Dudemaannow was right, it turned out to be the starter relay! Well after diagnosing many different complicated theories, I thought maby the problem really IS as simple as I think, but I still refused to believe it was that simple... 1 year of starting issues.... gone today. I will try again tommorow just to be sure im not dreaming, but its doing MUCH better then before.

For now, all I did was bypass the relay, just to have the car start reliably everyday, until I order the new relay from Malloy Mazda.

Also, I just received my new carbon fiber style exterior door handles and installed them (with the help of super glue!) and they look amazing, so all in all it was a good day thanks for all the help!

Here is the wiring diagram Ernesto. The above put you directly to the starter bypassing the switches. Now don't rule out the Clutch switch.

Usually the clutch switch either works or doesn't work. The spring inside just falls apart. Not to say intermittant starting issues aren't the cause of the clutch switch but its more common for the relay to be the culprit if it sometimes starts. If you have the click click start issue thats when a starter booster should be added.

Ernesto - you do a lot of work yourself, I am surprised that you do not have a shop manual by now. You need one. Here is a link to a disc copy on ebay.

guess what??? the weirdest thing happened today when I tried to start my car!! Ever since I put in the jumper cable bypassing the security relay, for 1 week I had NO problems starting at all. So I bought the new relay from Ray, and installed it last night. As soon as I installed the relay I tried starting the car and it started fine and I thought all was well...

WELL today, I was checking my oil, and I tried to start the car the for the heck of it, and it would not start!! No click, nothing... FIRST thing I did was remove the NEW security relay, and reinstall the jumper wire, and as soon as I did, the car started right up????? every time!!! I have NO IDEA whats going on, but it seems like the only way to solve this problem is to jump the relay permanently, since replacing it with a NEW one didnt do me any good... if anybody knows or might know whats going on, please enlighten me!

Sounds like the security system held you out.....look at the drawing above. It's the CPU #2 side of the relay.

Hook the Relay back up but leave it hanging where you can get to it. Try to start the car. If it does not start then check the 15a engine fuse. If good, check for 12v at the B/LG WIRE. If ok, then run a temp ground wire on the LG/R SIDE of the relay.

It might be your cpu#2 OR your security system is activated ( Which disables the starter )
