Need some advice again!!!

Well I got the car back together and the y-pipe seems to have fixed my problem. I have no more boost drop off at transition. The problem now is getting my boost controller configured so that I don't have so much of a transition spike. My question to you guys is my concern with how my car is acting under boost.

I was testing it yesterday on the interstate. I was in fifth gear and would hit the gas to see how it was acting under full boost (i think i had it set for .7 bar at the time). Well at that pressure I was noticing that the car was cutting out a little. It was acelerating and the boost was staying steady but the car seemed to cut out off and on a little. I was wondering if anyone had seen this issue and if they knew the cause. I was thinking that maybe it was my fuel injectors but I wonder about that theory.

Also, when i bought this car it was running at 12 psi consistently and doing it very well. Now, I have put 6k miles on it since I have owned it and it seems to not even take 10.5 psi very well. What is up?

Thanks in advance

Stock ECU or upgraded?

Have you done a tune up (new plugs, etc.)?

It does have the stock computer, but like I said when I bought the car (didnt' have AVC-r then) it was running 12 psi and running very strong, that is why I bought it. Now the engine seems to be telling me that that boost level is too high.

I changed the plugs and wires about 3k miles ago. I have only put 5.5k miles since I have owned it.

It is less than safe to run more than stock boost (10 psi) with a (unmodified) stock ECU. You could run 12 psi for a while, but it is likely that you could damage your engine very quickly (within minutes) or over a few thousand miles. At 12 psi and stock fuel map, it may have run extremely strong, mean and punching out the power, but also lean, IMHO, it is not safe.

Not to freak you out, just know that it possible that you can damage your engine with that kind of boost and inadequate fuel compensation.

If your ignition system is good (good spark, plugs, etc.), then fuel could be suspect, but also the maze of vacuum line is suspect. Depending on the number of miles, you may want to change the fuel filter (regardless of mileage, it is wise to do if you don't know its history). You could have a boost or vacuum leak, those are difficult to track down. If the car has not had the hose job done, it would be a good thing to do it. Check the piping coming off the turbos too for potential leaks, these are tough to spot, but can cause similar problems. If ignition, fuel and the vac control seems to be in line, then it may be serious. Depending on the order in which you want to proceed, you could do a compression check at any time. If nothing else, it is reassurance that your engine is good.

I just changed the fuel filter about a month ago so it probably has about 25 miles on it. I just got one boost issue figured out, I had to buy and install an Efini y-pipe b/c my stock plastic crossover had ruptured. The new y-pipe fixed that problem. In terms of boost problems I don't think that I have any more issues except for tuning my AVC-r. I do need a compression test, what does it cost for something like that. I also know that I need a new ECU (have been saying that ever since i bought the car) but they are very expensive and times are tight. What exactly will the new ECU do for me. What boost would I be able to run at then? Prices, other info, etc. ?

Berge Mazda In Mesa (1515 W. Broadway Rd. 480-833-0001) call and ask for service then ask for Mike Ploof and if you can't get to him (or leave him a voice mail) talk to the service guy. Mike Ploof is about the only guy at a dealer in town that I would let touch your reX. He is the guy the local club uses and he also did my compression test and checked out my car. I beleive it's about $75 or less. Talk to Mike tho and tell him you heard about it from the club OR from me (if he remembers me lol)

HA... never though about that... My name is Chris and he checked out my red touring a couple of weeks ago before I bought it. He knows several people in the club. I just heard about him recently but I guess he is really the only service guy (at a dealer) that the people in the club will trust. He seems do know his crap about the STOCK rotory I have no clue if he knows high performance stuff. You would have to talk w/ him. He is really a cool guy and easy to talk to. Very straight forward and didn't yank my chain on anything... he gave me the down low and didn't try to sell me crap. The only other guys I know of in the state that knows rx7's and high performance is the guy who owns RX4YOUR7 in Tuson. They have a website but I forget the address just do a search. But he is usually backed up for months... he is really good and has people come from out of state.

Defi is just a name brand like HKS or Greddy. For more info:

http://www.rx7store.net/defi_gauges.htm

They are supposedly some of the best gauges on the market - very accurate with lots of neat features (like playback and such)
