Need opinions and advice

This isn't my car and I know the drawing sucks, but what do you guys think about putting vents in the stock hood. I couldn't find anything with a search. Here's my idea: mold some vents into the hood with ducts going to them- one for my custom intake and one from the back of my stock intercooler. Has anyone done this before? Will it look ok? Where can I get the vents? I have a VR car but in the next year or so I'm going to paint it a slightly different red(maybe w/ a little pearl). I'm in college with about five years ahead of me, so I can be a bit thrifty. Plus I'm a mechanic and just like making stuff for my car. What do you think?

That was the first image I posted and I had to shrink it to get the file size down, thus making it look worse. Forgive me. I know not these blasted computers.

the problem is that the hood is made out of aluminium. Also, the heat that gets under the hood will make the fiberglass vents crack if that is the way you wanted to go.

I was looking for something similar (well a little bit less ugly actually ) but you would have to make everything out of aluminium and aluminium is really hard to work.

Does anyone make aluminum vents? And don't worry the real vents would look nothing like my 2 minute picture.

This picture is ugly too, but you guys do have imaginations don't you? Just for a general idea which would work/look better, two louvers or one big vent?

Why don't you try thinking up something that has some relation to the shape of the car.. I can't think of a single place on the FD that has a perpendicular/squared off corner like that. Perhaps that would help your design.. look at all the successful aftermarket hoods that have come out. All the best of them have taken a que from the rest of the car's shape, and most often try to work in some functionality to it. The mazdaspeed CF hood is my personal fav, although I wouldn't dump $1800 for it.

Since you guys don't like my crappy pictures how 'bout somebody sells me a fiberglass replica (no offense JoeD) hood. Or hook me up on the mazdaspeed replica GB.

Pettit used to have hood louvers/vents on their web site that were user installable, came with templates, etc. You had to cut the stock hood. They were crinkly coat painted black if I remember correctly. They were more in the back than in your picture/drawing, one on each side. The one on the passenger side looked like it would have let out some turbo heat, especially when parked, and maybe suctioned air flow when moving.

Whenever I can (like at home in my garage) when I park my '93 Touring I raise the hood to let out the heat. I even have a little fan I connected to a Radio Shack remote that I carry in my car and click it on when I pull in the garage that turns on the fan. Anything to get that heat out.

The hood louvers aren't on the Pettit web site anymore; however, I was on the phone with them a couple of months ago ordering something else and mentioned it to them and they still had them. Price was $200 or $250 I think.

Anybody ever install these or have pictures or able to say if they were effective?

That's so sweet. I wish I didn't have so many plans and so little money, I'd love a hood like that.
