Unhappy Need New Motor 3rd :-(

Let me try and explain what happend in a summary....
I got my 3rd gen (i was very happy) with a fried motor.. i am in college so u kno moneys not easy to come by but anyway over the summer i got a motor rebuilt by T&R racing in queenz(dont care for them too much now) But too make a long story short the car wasnt even runnin for 3 months and i didnt beat on it or anything...
i always noticed the car smoked alot after i got it abck from them there was a HUGE hesitation.. The car rannn wayyyyy to rich, backfired every minute... gas would make you cry...and so forth on.. i have a greddy front mount intercooler but with the stock computer.. i think my turbos were opened up all the way so i was runnin alotta boost, like 15 16lbs... ( i think this is one of the things taht ledto the motor going) but anywya i had a bad feelin about the motor and then next thing u kno while driving it it was liek it kept revving high then droppin next thing you nknew the car wont start it sounds liek it wants to start but it wont, some poeple say the teeth on the abck rotor went, some people say its a seal, some say maybe a gasket.. but either way i am looking for anothermotor.. I live in the westchester are, if u live around here you prolly know the car. but if you live in the area or sumwhere in NY ill come get it if its a good price...
But if anyone has a motor (prefereably stock) that they are looking to get rid of for a pretty good price that is a good motor i am definatly looking to get one so please let me know... if you need to reach me email me at forevaballin@hotmail.com and i will give you my number and we can talk...
thank you very much
PS if you cant tell i am still getting used to rotary engines(boy o boy i didnt think they were this ruff to deal with) I still love the car though...
thanks for your help everyone

one sad rotary owner lol............

I'm in Orange County, not far from westchester. Not that I'm willing to donate my cars heart, but I have a perfect running *Near stock MBM.

I'd say boosting 14-15psi was your culprit, unless you compensated with the right fuel, injectors, and boost control. You can't just turn up the boost and go crazy.

You perhaps lost your second motor due to poor workmanship (on the garage's part) and lack of knowledge (on your part)...hard way to learn about this car...and hard on your wallet too

PM me if you want some help nonetheless, I'm not that far.

sounds like you need to take your FD to a real rotary professional for engine work... just any old speed shop will not cut it. Tuning is everything...

sorry to hear of your situation. IMO, if properly setup, the rotary should deliver very reasonable reliability. since it is turboed and often tuned to make high power levels versus it's size the engine will be a replacement item from time to time.

if properly supported with the right subsytems, intercooler, computer, proper tune etc it will kick *** and be a thing of beauty.

it is evident by your comments that you are fairly new to the rotary and, like all of us on the board, there is a learning curve that must be properly understood and traveled.

for instance you shouldn't be running 15-16 psi boost unless you have the entire complement of support systems. you will blow your motor.

in addition, the turbos cavitate ( over 145,000 rpm) and superheat the incoming charge air at 15-16 psi and you get less oxygen molecules per volume... so your power efficiency falls off. if you are running the stock turbo setup without additional fuel etc you should run in the 12-13 max boost area.

this is very very basic and the fact that you apparently didn't know it suggests to me that you should use this board as a resource (search) so you will be on the right side of the fd engineering. this is not a negative comment to you rather a contructive comment.

all the info you need is here. if you use it i predict you will develop a long and successful relationship w your fd.

if you don't, your fd relationship will be short and expensive.

good luck,

howard coleman

there is a guy here on long island selling a used motor. i think he is widebody2 or something. go search the classifieds section.

if you are looking for another mechanic, i've been working with J&R in Elmont and have been happy with their work.

granted it sounds like the motor wasn't a strong one to begin with, but running it at 14 to 15 psi with a front mount and stock ecu is what I'd be willing to bet was the cause that blew it. What year is it? If it's a 93, make sure the turbo lines have the wastegate pills in the line.
