need help with starter
so i parked the FD for the winter and i went to start it and when i depressed the clutch with the key in the on position it started to crank without me turning the key. i freaked out and didnt try anymore, the car didnt turn over so i left it untill i had time to get under it which was today (18 degrees). so i got under and took the starter out and checked it. everything looked to be fine so i hooked the plug to the solenoid then attached the ground while the started was out. i had a buddy depress the clutch and it didnt spin. so i thought it would work, so i reinstalled it and did a test and it still cranks when i depress the clutch. i have no clue what could be going on. and its bugging the hell out of me. i need to start it so that she will run fine in the spring.
Make this my Christmas present and help me out.

You put a huge load on the battery by starting it and it isn't given a chance to charge. You introduce moisture into the engine and exhaust and it doesn't get warm enough to evaporate. Here:

Sounds like your ignition switch is screwed up. If the black/blue wire going to the starter cut relay has +12 when the ign switch is on, your ignition is making contact with the start position.

You wouldn't be under the car. I'm not talking about the solenoid.
I'm talking about the starter cut relay. You can also check for +12 on the clutch interlock switch right at the clutch pedal. Same implications...but it doesn't eliminate the starter cut relay as the problem.
Check the blue/white wire at the clutch switch with the key on.

A test light will also work. The metal door catch in the door jam is usually a good ground.
And merry x-mas. If you don't like it or it doesn't work, I lost the receipt. Tough ****.

Yep, just hook the red lead to the wire I told you about and the black lead to a known good ground (check it on something you know is +12 like a fuse in the fuse panel). Switch the key to on. If it's hot, then the ignition switch is giving you current when it shouldn't be.
