Question Need help from someone that has pulled a REW (PLease!!)

I have everything that I can find on removing my REW (1993 RX7) and HI cant seem to get the Damn thing loose. The car has a bent sub-frame and I have it hanging really low (In otherwords the motor mounts are not catching anything.

It seems as if the Flywheel is hanging up on the bell housing or something. Any assistance would be helpful

Tranny is jacked up
Sub-frame hanging out of the way of the engine mounts
Harness was disconnected from the computer
UIM is off so I can see between the firewall and the engine

HELP!!! Please (Running out of daylight hours!!!!

Did you release the throw out bearing from the clutch?

With my R&R, I pulled the engine with the transmission. When I pulled it, I needed the help of a friend. Basically, I had to pull down on the end of the transmission housing to give me enough clearance to get the engine out.

Also, when pulling the engine out, I got it stuck a couple times. The most likely place where it will get stuck is where the engine meets the hard lines for the ABS system. Basically it's the top spot right below the windshield cowling. Check to see if it's getting stuck there. Try pushing one end of the engine down while pulling it out.

Good luck!

Is your downpipe (or precat if you still have one) still attached? Often, the DP likes to get hung up on the tranny tunnel, or the tranny itself.

Downpipe is disconnected and out of the way (As is the Split air tube). How do I release the throw out bearing on the clutch?

I didn't have this issue when I pulled the FC (TII) motor.

Use a long screw driver or remove the pressure plate bolts.

I think I cracked a rib trying to pry this POS out of the engine bay. Guess I will have to wait until next weeksnd (The only time I have to mess with my ride).

Will have to look @ the shop manual and see if it has a better way to release the PP/clutch from the tranny shaft. Thanks anyway!!

Easiest way is to remove the inspection plate at the bottom of the tranny and unbolt all the 14mm bolts holding the pressure plate to the flywheel - just undo a bolt, spin the motor, do the next one, etc. Should take like 2 minutes. That's the easiest if you've never un-clipped the TO bearing before - takes no finesse with that method.

I just removed the TB from the PP today, by way of a long screw driver and the service hole. took about 30secs. Although I am going to be pulling the enigne w/tranny, then seperate the two later, not unless other recommend to pull the engine and tranny seperatly..

release bearing

I dropped the trans from my FD today for the first time- so it's fresh in my mind.

With both inspection covers off - I was able to take a big-***-screwdriver (thru the bottom cover hole) and pop the throw out collar out of the release bearing (while pushing on the clutch release arm thru the higher access hole) - you just have to make sure the release bearing tab is pushed forward (against the clutch fingers), could not believe how easy it was. There is a video posted on the site recently that explains how the pieces fit together - out of the car so you can see how they "mate" - it will help you.

Print out the clutch replacement how-to from the Cerranni? site - it's very good. The only thing that caught me was the hyd clutch line - it is clipped to the tranny bellhousing - and I think he forgot to mention that. Now the problem is my car isn't up high enough to slide the tranny out (new jackstands next weekend)

Good luck

Jim

Take a look at this thread:

After viewing the movie file, it will be much easier to understand what needs to happen.
