Need help with Series 7/8 vacuum lines

Ok so here is the scenario:

About a month ago I pulled the engine out of my mates 1996 FD and stripped it down for a rebuild. Against my advise my friend opted to buy a second hand running series 6 engine over the rebuild. I stripped all of the auxiliaries off and proceeded to swap over the series 7 parts. Now I am competent with series 6 engines as I have done a fair few but this is my first series 7/8 engine so its a little different. I have installed the LIM, turbos, water pump and everything else but I am stuck on the vacuum lines. We have removed some of the emission stuff and blanked it off and capped the selected now redundant vacuum lines. I have also started to replace the old hardened, brittle and cracked lines one at a time and only those of which were already connected at both ends. The problem I have is that there seems to be around 5 vacuum lines with no home to go to where they broke off when removing and I need to either find someone in my area (Auckland, North Shore) with a series 7 or 8 that knows how they go together or a vacuum diagram for this model so I can nut it out.

Can any one help?? Seeing as I stripped the bits off a month ago I cant remember how everything goes. I want to put the engine back in tomorrow and I would like to have this sorted if possible.

So if you can hep I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for that but I have already seen that thread and its for the older series 6, I already have 4-5 variations of that diagram for the early model.

Hey mate, at the moment i cant really help you, I have a series 8 and will be replacing all the vacuum hoses late next month, i do have a repair manual on CD thats on its way from the UK and i would think it should have some vacuum diagrams on it. I am in auckland so if you really get stuck and havnt solved the problem, as soon as the manual has turned up ( should be later this week) i can copy some of the vacuum diagrams assuming the information is on there.

Cheers
Rory

If it's a 1996, you should be able to use the US diagrams and ignore the EGR and AWS parts:

Thats all very well and good but the US diagram is different to the JDM 1996 model as they changed all of the lines etc, some of them I think will be self explanitory but there are still a few I am stuck on. The 1996 models have the vacuum box like the 99 spec, not like the complicated US and JDM 1991-1995 rats nest versions.

I am about to go around now and have a second attempt at hooking them up with a fresh mind so I will see how I get on.

Hmm, I didn't think the vacuum box was introduced that early, but I guess it was. You might try asking in the Far East section if someone has a diagram of it.

Badsvn2000, So replacing the Vacuum hoses on a jdm series 8 would be alot easier than the US spec series 6 ? I was going to pre order the recommended sizes and lengths, but if theres less hoses to replace on a jdm 2000 i will hold of untill i remove the intake manifold.

Cheers

It seems to be a bit easier due to the vacuum box instead of the complicated rats nest. If I were you I would just go to Supercheap and buy 2 meters of 4mm and 200mm of 6mm vac hose (cost us $10) and just cut to length yourself one by one or you can bring it over to my place one weekend and we can do it all here. I believe the guys on here how they say that some aftermarket reliability mod parts are actually better than Mazda original's like the vac lines and one way valves etc. I will keep an eye on them to see how long it is before they go brittle etc.

I believe there is a writeup on the Australian forum (fdowners dot com)

Lots more information on them over there, as we have probably more series 8 cars on the road than series 6 cars..

Cool mate thanks for the tips , im an auto technician, so il be sweet on the remove and replace of the vacuum lines and have plenty of tools!! Just got to install an alarm system ,boost and water temp gauges, change all the fluids and il be ready for some driving( just bought the car last week) . Then il attack the vacuum hoses . Would be keen as to meet up with some fellow rotary/ fd owners at some stage though.
