Need help keep breaking belts???

I have been through three belts in about a 4 week period. I have no power steering and no a/c and have tried a couple different sizes of belts. The water pump makes the belt squeek constantly. What do i need to do?

Figure out which pulley has the bad bearing or clutch. Something isn't turning as freely as it should.

How tight are you making it? Most people think they need to be guitar string tight.
Either that or you're rubbing on something.
Shouldn't be a belt size issue. If you can get it on, it should be OK.

Also, are you using stock pulleys? I installed the Unorthodox Ultra SS, and found out after i shredded 4 or 5 belts in the first 1,000 or so miles, the alternator pulley was simply machined wrong. (the ribs were visibly out of sink, and it had gotten so hot that color went from blue to brown, and basically cooked the belts). Anyway, if the stock pulleys, i agree with dave.

Do you have something else like an airpump elimination? And how old is your water pump?

The water pump isnt spinning very freely and that is where the incredible squek comes from. I only have it going from the only accesories im running is a alternator and water pump. No smog pump, ac, or power steering. Also no aparent claning or anything beside the belt squeking coming from water pump when it starts spinning.

One of the pulleys are probably seized and/or you are making the belt(s) too tight.
