need advice
ok guys, i currently have a 95 nissan 240sx w/ a sr20det motor. i am contemplating sell it because my buddy has a 93 rx-7 w/ 51000 miles he needs to get rid of and told me $6000. it needs paint, which i can do, and the seats are a little rough but other than that its awesome. he did a single turbo conversion, i dont know what turbo or anything, but it seems like a good deal for a project car. i just want some advice on what i should know before buying it, i dont know anything about rx-7's. what common problems, how reliable or how well a stock motor will hold up with more boost and fuel, those types of things. thanks

haha man i have always wanted one but didnt want to pay too much. now i found a diamond in the rough and i can polish it into something beautiful, i wont let that go. just wondering though, i mean i read some threads about oil meter pumps leaking and a/c (its a sports car, who needs ac) haha. the only thing that gets me is i have a damn near bullet proof nissan motor, i feel confident boosting and running it hard when i need to. should i share this confidence with a FD?

$6,000 for a RUNNING FD let alone a single turbo FD with 50k miles is a good deal unless the interior and exterior on that car is completely fucked over. I mean does this car have a clean title and everything?
short answer, no. that motor with 50k miles could even let go soon enough.

yeah clean title, the exterior is fine except paint. its faiding and some spots are real rough, but no dents or rust anywhere. the only thing wrong with the interior is the seats, they are pretty rough, but i might just re-do those myself also. other than that, everything is good. havent driven the car yet, he finished the conversion and when out and got on it and blew the intake gasket. once that comes in i will be test driving the car. i just dont know a thing about rotary motors, and like i said, the nissan sr20det is pretty bulletproof stock to upwards of 450 rwhp, would the motor in the 7 hold up to something like that without major worries? are they expensive to maintain? i can do all the work after i do some research on the motor.

ok so from what i have been reading now, it seems that most of the horror stories i have read are usually due to people who dont know what they are doing, i.e. trying to bump boost without adding fuel, trying to do both without sufficient cooling. if upgrades and tuning are done right, FMIC, Power FC, bigger injectors, better cooling system, should i still fear the motor itself being problematic? i dont know what to think, if the motors themselves just arent reliable or if people just induce or help the motor create problems.

If your friend is selling for $6k, he either doesnt know **** about how much his car is worth, has a bunch of cheap components on the car (ebay turbo etc), or there are major problems on the horizon. Something doesnt add up about that asking price.
