My New FD got stolen today!
[QUOTE=dblboinger;7998529]
Yeah I am working on the internal alarm myself, In Canada, Saskatchewan specifically they say there should be no limit, but they had never heard of this being done. My friend over and down in Australia claims their law is 120Db and you will have no trouble. It's a great concept, but ask local police/higher authorities what is "too much"
And wow, so sorry to hear your car is gone, I hope you find it and the guy who did this. Unfortunately the car probably was given ****, pretty sure they didn't drive away slow waiting for the turbos to warm up. Hope insurance kicks the price up, good luck bud!

When I get my FD back on the road 1st thing i will do is invest in a quality alarm system followed by a loud exhaust system the kind that alerts the whole neighborhood.

Let me tell you a story about alarms. A friend of mine had his car, with a top of the line alarm, stolen 4 times. After the 4th time he installed 2 - 140db sirens INSIDE his car. Along comes Joe Thief and breaks into his car again, the alarm goes off and Joe gets 140db x2. This time he doesn't get away. The cops come and the guys just ignores their instructions...like he can't hear them. Turns out it damaged his hearing. Serves him right you say? Well he turns around and sues my friend and wins. Now my friend is paying him $440/month for disability. Gotta love our justice system.
Not to be a pessimist, but the only thing an alarm does is give the thiefs something else to sell. Any thief worth his salt can get around an alarm as fast as he can a locked door. The exhaust might help, but if it's too loud the neighbors will learn to tune it out or ignore it.

gutted mate, nothin worse than a lil scum bag driving around in your pride and joy. i fitted two metal posts that bolt onto your drive so theres no way of getting the car out without using a very loud tool. also fitted a wireless cam inside so i can at least get a pic of that lil ***** face
i would start staking the previous owner out,see where he goes and if he makes frequent trips to ups or any shipping company.dont just sit there go out and rage like a mad man.check atlanta craigslist and things like that
also i use a dummy ignition fuse when i leave my FD unatended, its a little bit of a hastle but it pays

Exactly.
Previous owner probably thinks he/she is the last person you will check out if in fact they did steal it back.
Hopefully they are not far from you and you can just go check on them randomly. At least if you do that and they check out ok, you can scratch them off the list.
It sure as hell better than just sitting at your computer wishing what you coulda shoulda and woulda done. Its over and now its time to get even or try to get back, if you can.
But like i said earlier. I would just wish they never find it. Let the insurance company pay for the car so you owe nothing. If you have full coverage on it.
Better than getting the car back looking like a 2 dollar *****.
Even IF the previous owner stole the car. Would you really want to get involved in that mess? "Stake him out"? You guys watch too much TV.
Ok so insurance gives a few grand less than it is worth. Then life goes on. I wouldn't get out into the weeds on this one.
You'll get another, better car someday. Hopefully soon

Anyone concerned with thieves should relocate that clutch pedal switch. For an auto tranny car, you can also install a hidden battery cutoff switch.
I haven't done it on the FD yet, but it was a 2 hour "figure it out" sorta task on my mr2. Hilarious when someone else would drive I wouldn't tell them how to start it at first..
I actually had a brake-in on my Acura, but I had installed a battery cut-off switch and since they couldn't get it started, they tore apart the entire dash plastic with a crowbar I think. It was a complete mess. They even broke a window when the passenger door wasn't locked. At the time, I kinda wished they had stolen it, lol.

Yeah, I'll be in China and I bought the car 200 miles away from Atlanta in Alabama. I have a career and I can't just spend my time staking people out. Traveling tomorrow.
As mentioned, worst case scenario is I get a few grand less than what I paid. It won't be the first time I dumped a few grand on a rotary for nothing!

You bet.

elaborate on it? Where is this switch located exactly?
Look on page H-8 of the FSM. Actually, unless I'm wrong what would need to be moved is the starter interlock switch, not the clutch switch.
damn i live in atl area i didnt know people even stole fds. what the hell do they do with the parts? anyways get you one of these! TireLock.com (The PitBull tire lock)...if you had enough money to put one on the front right and the back left it would make it very hard to even drag up on a flat bed...which is the biggest way to steal cars here in atl.
Here's another idea for you...I just relocated my battery to the drivers side storage bin. In so doing I installed a battery cut-out switch up near the old battery location. Whenever I want to make sure she can't be stolen I can just turn the switch off. I picked up a 500 amp single contact switch at West Marine for $25.

Nope, it has not been found.
I'm in Spain right now still on the same business trip.
I did not have the time to deal with it and the fact that I was in China and Spain, I did not want to keep dicking around with the insurance company. Also, I was making payments and paying for insurance for a car that someone else was driving or tearing apart.
Anyway, I accepted the insurance offer. They ended up paying $14,700 minus my $500 deductible.

Seriously, if someone wants your car, they will have it.
Unless you have armored men guarding it at all time.
Tow trucks take time and make a decent amount of noise. Especially if its super low and they need to put it rollers, or if you have a removable steering hub which also requires rollers. Nothing in the world can prevent them from stealing it, you can only slow them down, but hopefully after a few failed attempts they'll leave without your car.
lol pellets in the keys work wonders. my transam has a pellet in the key which measures resistance in ohms. wrong resistance and the car locks, only problem is after a couple years the pellet can start to wear occasionally locking you from starting the car for 5 minutes. good setup though and its hardwired to the ECU.

Sorry to hear that. I too am curious about why your car was stolen. I was wondering if it had aftermarket seats, or rims, or some other part the thief might have been after?
