another word to the wise:

The switch under the clutch pedal that has to be depressed to start the car can be moved to any spot you want.

I moved mine on my last car to a place I could reach but would be really hard to find if you didn't know where it was.

Pretty much makes sure you're the only one who can start the car.

Just a couple hundred years ago (especially in England), thieves were jailed and many times executed or had their hands cut off .. just for stealing food but got the worst sentence if it was more valuable property.

but we live in a "civilized" society now! Where only corporate thieves are above the law.

I think I will be getting lojack installed in my FD and have the number saved in speed dial on my phone.

Also, I might as well add those BNR turbos to my Insurance Policy, since after reading this thread, most Insurance providers won't acknowledge any mods unless otherwise disclosed in the Policy. I am with Geico, but I'm not sure if they will agree.

Does anyone already have mods covered in their Policy and if so, who is your provider?

I've had mods on my State Farm and Geico policies.

In teh Geico case, I actually had to drive the car to a local inspection center for them to look it over and verify the value. That was for an MR2 I was insuring for $10k when the book was $4k.

Well that's cool. I will definitely be going to a Gieco inspection when my car is out of the shop, but I'm not sure they will know the difference between stock twins and BNR's, since I'm not getting my core set back.. (or maybe I can), the only proof I will have is my receipt of work done...

I still have not heard anything. From past dealings with Fulton County's finest, they are not exactly quick with anything.

In their defense, a tornado did trash downtown Atl, so they probably have other priorities.

One reason why I never considered Low Jack on any of my cars was because I always felt that if a car was stolen, I don't want it back. It is like someone fu*king your girl, but you get to get her back afterwards--no thanks. It is used and dirty after that and somehow violated.

that's why you put an exhaust on your car, so you can definately hear it. and sleep with a pistol and/or shotgun within arms reach of your bed.

My insurance has a modified vehicle specification in which you can claim up to a certain amount to be covered and you dont have to specify what you have, but you do pay for it... Had my 7 insured for 25k, and everytime I drove it I prayed someone would hit me lol well not really but I knew I would be covered. As far as i know with fair market value you can research and come back to them with a list of 10 cars in similiar condition and mods and they will take an average of the prices to settle with you on. Heres one to start you off with... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/car/608598872.html

Have you posted about this in the SE fourm yet? You should post the licence plate # of the car so local ppl can keep an eye out for it,though it might not help if it's being driven around
with a diffrent tag.
I live in Lawrenceville GA and reading your story is
disheartening to say the least.

When I get my FD back on the road 1st thing i will do is invest
in a quality alarm system followed by a loud exhaust system the kind that alerts
the whole neighborhood.

Hope the insurance company pays you what you paid for it
or your able to get your car back in great shape!

I get the impression that your car was stolen by someone from your neighborhood or in the
immediate area, probably a couple of stupid kids who wanted to go for a joyride.

I had a loud exhaust on it but the crazy rain we had coupled with the Jamison I drank muffled the sound. I did not think of posting on the SE forum, I'll do that now.

The Frustrating thing is that I am moving to Philly This Friday and then I'll be out of the country for at least a month so even if they do find it, I won't be around to deal with it. I gave my neighbor a POA so that he can help me deal with it if Atl finest do find it. It sucks that if it does show up, I won't be around to deal with it.

Yes, you can part a girl out. I can give you some web sites if you want... You probably have to go to Mexico though.

What else can I do but have a sense of humor about things. My phone background sill has my FD staring me down like a dead child that haunts my dreams. In honor of my baby, I'm changing my aviator to my phone's background.

QUOTE]

Let me tell you a story about alarms. A friend of mine had his car, with a top of the line alarm, stolen 4 times. After the 4th time he installed 2 - 140db sirens INSIDE his car. Along comes Joe Thief and breaks into his car again, the alarm goes off and Joe gets 140db x2. This time he doesn't get away. The cops come and the guys just ignores their instructions...like he can't hear them. Turns out it damaged his hearing. Serves him right you say? Well he turns around and sues my friend and wins. Now my friend is paying him $440/month for disability. Gotta love our justice system.

Not to be a pessimist, but the only thing an alarm does is give the thiefs something else to sell. Any thief worth his salt can get around an alarm as fast as he can a locked door. The exhaust might help, but if it's too loud the neighbors will learn to tune it out or ignore it.

sorry for your loss but just wondering why would you leave your car outside if you have a garage....who cares if your garage floor gets wet, better than anything happening to your car outside excluding getting stolen hell something could fall on it or some punk kids could screw with it. REPEAT IF YOU HAVE A GARAGE PARK YOUR CAR IN IT. AGAIN, sorry for you loss but its gone

also people on here you can get all of your parts covered by insurance but you will have to ask your agent for a car appraisial and they will set it up so if anything like this happens your car and your parts will be covered but its not cheap

I like this idea. I may take a look at doing this. Thanks for mentioning it.

Yeas I know. I am in the middle of moving and I was cleaning out my garage. Plus is was raining and I don't have a automatic door opener which means I would have to shut off the car, run out in the rain, unlock the garage, move crap out of the way, restart the car and put it inside.

I usually do keep it inside, but it was a stupid decision on my part. The plan was to wash it the next morning, so I left it outside to pre-soak. There are about 20 things that I should have done differently. It is a two-car garage, but I had just detailed my Miata and it was occupying the other side.

Like I said, stupid decision.
