Nothing earth shattering here. Trivia really. But some times it's the little things....
When I exit my car, I instinctively place my left hand in the door sill, stick my left leg out of the car and then sort of pivot on both as I stand up. Pretty easy...even for a slightly chubby old guy. And probably like many of you exit. Besides, I've alway felt getting out this way reduces wear on the seat bolster. Trouble was, if my hand was alittle sweaty or particularly dry, it would slip on the painted surface of the door jam. Making a damn awkward exit, and usually when someone's looking.
So I had some left-over self-adhesive anti-slip stuff used for ladder steps, stool steps etc. Cut a piece out, stuck it right where I place my hand. It's amazing how much little things help...

Lol, yep. Stopped focusing on making the car faster years ago. Now, just better....and it really did help. Besides, I thought a change from the "what's this wire for" or "my car won't start" and "did my engine just blow" threads might be nice.
Thanks. And I remember that trip. IIRC I was down there for work anyway and went to the BBQ. Alot of fun. Nice group of guys. Made a clock out of a toasted housing and rotor someone gave me at the after-party. You ever have another let me know.
Good idea. I guess I'm falling into that older and chubby demographic these days too...
Me too. I doesn't make for a sexy thread but for those of us that spend our time driving and our money on gas rather than parts, these little things improve the ownership and driving experience incrementally.

Next step would be a nice higher end type of material that looked even more factory. Maybe some type of textured and anodized aluminum or a composite. The backside of a carbon fiber/epoxy lay up possibly. Maybe in aluminum with an embossed traditional MAZDA font logo in the middle for grip instead of texture. It could still be fastened with adhesive and be removable.

I feel ya, I worked my last rx7 over so much it was nothing but a money pit by the time I finally rid myself of it. I won't bother with the go fast goodies on my new one.
Second good use. I don't have hte first problem just yet but I do have a heck of a lot of nicks in the same place from the seatbelt hitting the door sill in the same location. This would look a lot better than a whole lot of dings.
For those who weren't aware, Mazda sold these grip pads as accessories for the late version VI FD's that were fitted with Recaro's (RZ's and Spirit R's).
No longer available from Mazda (I've checked).
Here they are fitted:

lol, nice to know the folks at Mazda and I were thinking along the same lines. Obviously that looks alot more 'refined' than what I did. Looks like thin rubber of some sort? But still appears to be the same solution.
