My idle is driving me crazy!!!!

ok so i just took the plunge and decided to get the power fc. i installed the pfc the other day and everything was going great until i was learning the idle. i took the elbow off and turned the idle bleed screw all the way in and then backed it out half way. i let it sit for 10 min just idleing and another 10 with the defrost on and another 10 with the a/c on. once i was done the idle was bumping up and down so i proceeded to adjust the screw a little bit and now i can not for the sake of my life get the idle to drop to normal and stay there.

May just be the screw is out too far. When you say "half way," half way between closed and what? Most find that somewhere between 1/2 turn and 2 turns open is the sweet spot. Mine is closer to the 1/2 turn. Also, if you are usint the O2 feedback loop, make sure your O2 sensor is good. The PFC seems to be more sensitive about that than the original ECU. You can bypass the O2 loop by turning it off on the PFC, but no need to do this if you don't have other mods where it actually works better if it is off. . .anyway, these will get you started and may take care of your problem.

My experience with a similar issue. Dale Clark's FAQ referenced as well.

weird mine almost completely mirrors your problem and i know for a fact i have put the bleed screw 3/8ths the way out, but still way loopy. i did use the map from one of the link dale clack gave in his PDF files about the pfc as my map would that have anything to do with it?

Have you made any adjustments to the vertical idle screw located on the throttle body? I also had to adjust this as well. If I recall it is a small vertical adjustment screw with a nut to lock the position.

Out of curiosity what are your RPM settings at? (Power FC manual page 33)

fyi Check Westbrook's notes have a very thorough write up on throttle body setup and idle adjustment. Since you now have a PFC, you may want to pick them up. I find his notes to be very valuable.

He is not saying 3/8ths of the way out. . .he is saying 3/8ths of a turn. . .that is just under 1/2 of one turn, very different from 1/2 of the way out. Also, where do you have your idle set on the PFC (RPM). should be about 850-870. For some reason, many set it higher (950ish). I had problems with bouncing when it was set higher. Another common problem I've seen is setting it too lean with the datalogit (I assume you can do this with commander as well but I don't know) at idle. This will cause problems as well.

Try turning off the O2 feedback and see if that makes a difference. . .also (I'm guessing you have tried this) keep turning the air screw down more, even all the way down until it's closed and see if that takes care of it
