My first serious mod's :-)
Hi there! Well, after a good number of reliability mods, I want more serious things to go on! I've already done the vacuum hoses job, aluminium AST, downpipe, boost pressure, A/F ratio, oil and water temperature gauges, radiator hoses, turbo coolant hoses, koyo radiator, etc. Next will be FC thermoswitch and Mazda thermostat. My car is running nice, with the right boost pattern. It's not difficult with a brand new Mazda 13b, hehehe. And next I want to run full exhaust and apexi power intake, so what do you recommend me for ECU upgrade? i think pettit racing is the best for me, but they're hard to find. What can you tell me about RE Amemiya (redom) ecu's or Greddy boost cut controller? Could these ones be useful for me? Thanks men, and greetings from Barcelona!!!

Yes, PFC would be the right choice, but the main problem is that I live in Spain, and there are not good electronic tuners. And we're talking about a FD, it's like a science fiction car here, in Spain . It's easier finding a Ferrari than a RX7 (not joking), so I don't want to take the risk and a plug&play ECU should be my first choice, I think... And about hp... I think around 330hp sounds nice to me

Ola Victor,
I would do an intercooler before an ECU or full exhaust. Intercooler lowers intake air temps which results in more reliable power.
As far as PFC, its a great ECU but only as good as its tune. Its hard to fine a good rotary tuner here in the US - I can only imagine how hard its going to be in Spain. For that reason, you might want to consider a different ECU unless you plan on buying a *Wideband* O2 setup (~$300) and Datalogit ($300) along with the PowerFC so that you can change the maps. A lot of people make good power off the other ECUs also.
Note that a wideband O2 is different from a regular a/f ratio gauge which is generally inaccurate.
Also be careful if you plan on removing the center catalytic converter. Removing that often results in lots of boost creep/spike and makes the car VERY loud.
Ciao.
btw - My family is from Portugal. Stopped in Barcelona on my to Ibiza and visiting Costa Del Sol. Nice city.

Passenger side. Pop off those two clips, and pull the black panel off. You'll need a 10mm socket and rachet and also some wire cutters, and some electrical tape. You're going to need to cut 4 wires. You can't just pop the ECU in. Email me your email address and I'll send you the how to.

Nah I just couldn't get to it because someone before had ghetto rigged some pieces over the panel with screws and bolts, and through some metal in there. But How do I get the plugs out of the ecu?

You're smarter
What's your question again? Is it which ECU to get?
You can always buy the Pettit straight from the source http://pettitracing.com/

Cut each wire and cap each cut end off, leave no bare wire exposed. Cut wires can always be fixed in the event of a mistake.

Victor,
I would take gracers' advice. I would suggest a nice intercooler, along with the RacingBeat Cat-Back exhaust. With these mods I believe you would be at the end of the rope with the Stock ECU, so Pettit may be a good choice. I think you will be pleased with the power the car will have with these mods, it will also be quite reliable.
However if you decide to completely open up the exhaust, you WILL need the wastegate ported, I don't think its going to be easy to find someone to do that in Spain

Victor,
Normally I would recommend the PFC but a Pettit ecu might be better for you, at least for now.
If you want to run a midpipe (no cats, full exhaust), you will need to port the wastegate or run a restrictor plate in the exhaust. A quick search will show you how to do either of those options. If you do not do either of these things, you will very likely experience uncontrollable boost (boost creep). Another less powerful option (also less smelly), would be to run a hi-flow cat instead. This will not require porting the wastegate or restrictor plates.
With the Pettit ecu, you will also need a manual or electronic boost controller. I would recommend picking up a USED Pettit ecu from the forum classifieds here, they are usually $350-400.
