Unhappy Moroso Spiralflow ...anyone using it?

I have their SS version and tried to get it welded in today but the place I went to closes early on sat. He mentioned he tried it on a Mustang or something and lost about 90hp using two of them. Supposedly he dynoed them but I didn't notice a dyno and since he doesn't sell it I have to question his truth. So since it supposedly was a 590hp V8 with dual exhaust and one on each side, that would most likely be a 40hp loss for us, right? Am I using the presidents fuzzy math?

I know 1st gen guys have used it and have been very happy but wouldn't they are less powered NA rotarys. Has any 3rd gen guys tried it before?

I've also looked in to Spintech but the aviation guys tested it and it failed. THey tried the SS version but never updated the results.

DNA is promising for hi flow but I don't know about the sound reduction.

I know some guys have had luck with Racing Beat on a streetported engine but I ahven't heard it myself.

ratincat has one.

I don't see how it could possibly hurt your power output, especially on a FI car. It seems to me that this muffler would only decrease backpressure...

I'm just wondering how a restriction could cause less backpressure. It's kinda like the tornado thing. A static object blocking flow.

I donno, I'm not an expert in airflow. in fact, I know exactly 0 about air flow.

Jesus, look at the blades in that thing, it has to restrict flow.

They claim a very slight loss. It you compare it to a flowmaster, you could call it strait through. I call it continuous, as it does not bounce between chambers. It's sorta like comparing a silly straw (spiral flow) to a normal straw (resonator). It seems to be a comprimise between chambered and strait through. It could be just what wee need.

The picture doesn't really show how the our part works. The center is a 1" strait through tube. Around that the spiral wraps the air around in circles over the tube like a strait straw inside of a crazy straw. The sound waves cancel eachother out, like white noise in head phones (sorta).

I ran a old formula mazda that had one of those a few years ago and the things blew apart after a very short time. The spirals would simply break and spew out the back leaving the pipe to rattle and buzz around. anyways I wasn't very impressed with the quality.

Well i'm hoping the SS version I bought will hold up better but it could be the welds that break, which would suck.

WoW! Huge difference! I would say a 10db drop. Although it's only a guess but maybe 95db and 105db wot from 105db & 115db. I beleive RatInCat measured a 10db before and after. I'm not shure what the power loss is, maybe 5-15hp? I can't notice it on the but dyno other then low end feels better overall. If it fails in the long run, i'll post it.

It's not a 3rd gen, but I've had one on my 12a turbo as a presilencer for a couple years now and it's still in one piece.

^ cool, i'd consider a turbo 1st gen the same thing. Did you use the mild steel or the newer stainless version?
