Just a thought but maybe you guys could take a 30 min window in the afternoon and do a couple pre paid parade laps led by one of the fd's, you could charge $30 a car and I'm sure you could make up the diffence with that.

This is what we mean by the "Track Experience" session, or laps led by an instructor. To make up a $3,000 difference, that would take a lot of cars

I've never been on anything other than a drag strip, I would pay to get to go a few laps even at basic speeds.

Awesome!!! I'm going to be flying back from Germany on the 19th, I believe I'll just get off the plane and drive straight there hopefully on the 20th. I really don't want to miss this!

Talk about a TRUE Grass Roots event. Someone like "Grassroots Motorsports" should be covering this as well

This event is becoming like the "Woodstock" for rotary freaks..... Dang... so wish I could make it as well.

Specifically we can install a Traqmate system in the cars (it takes about 5 minutes) that could follow a specific driver during the evaluation process. This system would generate lateral, longitudinal G's, speed traces and several other channels that may be used to compare car performance. We can divide the track into sectors for further analysis (straights versus corners as an example). We also can overlay the cars for head-to-head analysis.

We can offer our streetport 13B Formula Mazda as a comparison vehicle with the same system on it. I would expect it to have quicker lap times but slower top speed when compared to the other cars. Should be very interesting. The car is capable of 1:55's full course." (How is that time, Fritz?)

Here's the kind of data it will generate...

A 1.55 is blazing but there once was a time when only formula type cars could run sub 2 minutes at VIR but now it's common place for all types of cars. Crazy how fast production cars are today.

Update!!

We've compiled all of the interested parties and given the Monday morning dyno session and wiring of the test cars with the Tracmate equipment, we've decided to do a 1/2 day track event. The good news with this is we feel we can give track drivers at least 4 sessions out on the track which is usually the number one would do during a normal day anyway, and this will be at the $100 rate.

So, I've taken the liberty of combining those that wanted to do a full day session with those signed up for the 1/2 outing into the below summary:

I Want to Attend
1. Jonathan "Snappin necks and cashin checks" Hallenborg
2. Marshallbc
3.
4.
5.

I Want to Get Out on the Track as a Passenger
1.Tvon
2.Mdessouki
3.Driftfc3s
4.rx7se (My Mom has taken the day off as well so add her)
5. Islander
6. ledgebmx
7.ncaudio
8.ncrx791
9. Project88Turbo
10. marshallbc
11. Mitsuninja (and his wife) <--- She is hot worth the ride along

I Want to Participate in the “Track Experience” Session - $35 Cost
1. ledgebmx (Beginner)
2. rx7se (Beginner)
3. ncaudio (Intermediate), if I bring a car
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.

I am a Qualified Driver and Want to Drive in the ˝ Day Session - $100 Cost
1. afgmoto1978
2. RGordon
3. wrankin (Bill Rankin)
4. thewird
5. Sabre002
6.

I've purposedly left slots open in the "track experience" section and the 1/2 day track session if others want to sign up. For the 1/2 day track session, we only have one more slot available and for the track experience, we can go up to 10 cars under the lead of an instructor.

Here is how we see the day going:

8 am - Noon

1) Dyno sessions of 6 test cars to establish baseline HP levels
2) Equipment fitting of Tracmate units to cars
3) Tech inspections of cars and course instruction for those signed up for 1/2 driving sessions. Please see the following VIR inspection form found here and come with the top portion completed and signed by your mechanic. Fritz and Peter will perform the additional track inspections unless VIR personnel does it:

http://www.shoclub.com/SHOconvention...ech%20Form.pdf

Also review the info on proper dress for tracking (long sleeves, long pants of natural fibers, closed toe shoes) and the helmet information. You need a Snell 2005/2010 helmet to drive so be prepared for this. My helmet was supposed to be Snell rated but wasn't so I ended up buying one at the track.

Fritz wants to spend a few minutes with you to go over the course layout and discuss driving the short course. Our goal here is for everyone to have a good time and to end the day safely.

Noon - 5:30 pm

Testing, track, and track experience sessions. Each session will last 15 minutes which is a good amount for the length of the track. We are allowing 20 minutes total per session to get cars off the track and would envision a quick turnaround for the next session.

1) Testing sessions of comparison cars - We have six cars with 8 drivers that need to test. Some of us (at least Gordon and myself) won't be driving all cars so that will free up slots for those that want to be passengers. I am also assuming Fritz, Peter, and Logan already know how their cars perform so that frees up more slots as well.

So, we'll work on the schedule to get those that want to go out as passengers. TBD - Fritz and Peter, can you guys figure out the sessions? I'd like to put the track experience session in the middle of the other driving so those that want to do this don't have to wait to long and so we can cool down the cars that track. I will defer to your expertise here though for sure For the track experience, we need a lead car that can take the others around the course at a nice but safe speed.

2) 1/2 day track cars - We'll get you out for at least 4 sessions of 15 minutes per session. Based on the above schedule, there might be the availability to get you out on the track during the testing sessions as well. TBD.

3) Track Experience - See the above. For those of you that haven't tracked your car, this is a chance to get out and drive the course in a controlled environment. Any car can participate, just make sure your car is in good shape and isn't leaking fluids

So, we'll see how it all shapes up above but should be a really good time regardless.

MORE INFO!!

PayPal
I've set up a PayPal account for those that wish to contribute or for for those that are going to do the track experience or the 1/2 day session. The account is:

modmagvir2013@gmail.com

I will personally receive and account for any monies you guys send. All proceeds will be used to defray the track rental cost of roughly $3,000.

To summarize the suggested costs:

$100 for 1/2 day drivers
$35 for track experience drivers

No other costs unless you want to contribute or are an Alabama fan. If so, you pay $10,000 (says the Auburn guy!!)

HOTEL
I've reserved a discounted rate of $84 per night at one of the area's best hotels, the Holiday Inn Express in Danville VA:

Danville Affordable Hotel in Danville, Virginia | Holiday Inn Express

No kidding, it's quite nice and I will be there Saturday thru Monday. You can book for one night or for all three by calling them and using the code "MMV" or jus tell them you are with the Modified Magazine event. The hotel is around 15 miles from the track and is very convenient to some pretty good food places.

So, I think that is it for now. More to come!

And one ore thing. We need to figure out food for the day. VIR has a food concession at the North Course that will be open but that is a bit of a walk or drive so we are thinking of bringing in food. Any ideas from the guys that know VIR?

I'd also recommend bringing your own cooler with sports drinks and snacks.

Comments from anyone else?

Modified Magazine is now booked at the Holiday Inn Express and I am too. We are both getting in on Saturday. They (Modified) have only one driver so we will certainly be able to offer more track sessions out on the course. I also think some of the instructors have said they'd take green drivers out so if you'd like to do this, pm Fritz and we will see what we can put together.

Going to be a good time. Please confirm if you are planning on attending or if you haven't as of yet put yourself on the list, then add yourself.

The cars are coming along. Gordon's has fired up and Logan is finishing up the work. Mine is under the knife right now with its cooling system apart from a leaky radiator. Got that repaired last week and will put it back together on Monday when I get back from Roebling Raceway. Fritz just has the simple task of putting in a new engine (LOL) and Logan is in stealth mode on the 4 rotor.

^ rx7 se, you can take out any car for the track experience if you'd like to get a taste of what driving on track is like. It will be faster than a parade lap, but not so fast you'd need an RX7. It will be a fun, controlled environment so feel free to drive on what you bring.

Carpenter, we'd like to get everyone signed up by no later than next Tuesday, so a week from today. Remember, we only have a total of 6 slots for the 1/2 day driving session and afgmoto1978 has already paid so that leaves 5 other guys that can confirm and pay. Once we hit this, we will cut off the sign up.

With a next Tuesday cut off or sooner if we get a total of 6 to confirm and pay before then, this will give Fritz enough lead to set up timing for the run groups. As of now, we think we can get guys out for more than 4 sessions in the 1/2 day. In fact, I bet we will give you as much or more driving time than you'd get in one full day of regular tracking. Normally, you'd get 4 sessions of 20 minutes, or a total of 80 minutes drive time. If we can get in 5 sessions at 15 minutes, then you are at 75 minutes, or the equivalent of a full day. So I'd say think of it as a full day crammed into an afternoon session.

On Sunday and Sunday night, our tentative plans are to get the testing cars out on the track so Fritz, Peter, and Logan can get some seat time in the test vehicles. If I am not mistaken, this will happen on the North Course as the PCA event is going on then. We will switch over to the South Course on Monday.

Sunday night, we are all going out to dinner, including the Modified staff, so this will be a good time to hang out and get to know everyone.

Thanks for the offer Dave! But my rx7 alternator just went bad (last week), my M3 brake calipers are sticking (aftermath of DGRR), and the Saturn, well, some things I just won't put on a track

I hear you but the South Course is a great technical test according to Fritz. The idea here is to get a feel for the handling and performance characteristics of each car and that should be very doable on the shorter South Course.

As an aside, I just got back from a track session at Roebling Raceway, a 2.02 mile course. I originally thought it wouldn't be as much fun as VIR but I have to say, I learned much more at Roebling than the North Course at VIR. Because it is pretty technical I was able to focus on the handling characteristics of the FD and got to experience weight shift, loading of the suspension, etc. Prior to this weekend I wasn't good enough to "feel" these things so it was pretty cool. The result is I got comfortable with how the FD handles and how to make corrections along the way.

BTW, the FD rocks as a track car. Very predicable and linear in its movements.

Too funny! I understand.
