Miles vs Plug Fouling

If im running all Trailing, and a Crane Hi-6 ignition amp, but my maps are tuned really really rich...how many miles do u think it wud be for me to foul out my plugs?

im asking this because im running a single setup with maps for 14psi and im at 9. and i dont have my car right now cause its getting painted but right before i sent it into the shop my car would like stutter at around 5,000 rpm then be smooth from 5,200+. I know its not cause the secondaries come on because its never done this before, and nothing has really changed in my setup other than upping the boost but that was like 200 miles ago and it ran perfectly fine before that. so the only thing i cud really think of is the plugs.

They have about probably 1,500 miles on them.

Thoughts?

I don't think anyone can give you a reasonable number which is going to matter. I could say 3000 miles, someone else could say 1500 miles. Who is closer? Who knows.

However, if you get a spark plug cleaner, you can run plugs for a lot longer with regular intervals of cleaning.

If it's a stock Mazda filter then the book says every 60,000 miles. Don't believe the hype of people who insist on changing them all the time.

ohhh ok, i thot u meant the spark plugs for a sec i was gonna say like WTF?! 60k?! ill keep that in mind, ill probably change it once i get closer to 20-25.

I bougth that spark plug cleaner from harbor frieght.

Along with thermometer while i was at it. So i cud tune my car more! ill just have my friend sit in the trunk hatch, and lean over the car and point the reader in the exhaust while im boosting to see what the temps get up to!

Also, and this may be obvious, it may not, but it doesn't matter that you're only running 9 lbs on a 14 lb map. There's a cell at or near 9psi and that's the fueling/timing it's using. It could be running rich or lean independent of everything else in the map. It's not like a map that goes to 14psi will automatically be rich at 9psi.

ohh,

so i guess ur the goo roo haha

would it make a difference if the map was tuned for a turbo that flows alot more air at 14psi?

I only posted because at one point I was told the same thing... And it was news to me. Now I have gained some experience in this stuff.

It would certainly matter that the turbo is flowing more air. But only at the boost you're running. If the turbo flowed exactly the same amount at your chosen boost (9psi,) and every other part of the system was the same then the tuning would be correct.

To sum it up:

You could very well be right that you are running rich, but not because you're running 9psi on a 14 psi map. You're running rich because your intake/ic/motor/turbo/exhaust flows less air than the one the map was tuned for at any given pressure/rpm level.

It is often dangerous to run someone elses map. But I did the same thing with Damian's track car map at first so that I had a starting point to tune from.

i wasnt mad or anything haha. thanks for the headsup.

Yeah before i start boostin more i just these maps as a start. and cause i felt safer about them because i am flow less air then his does. for instance my turbo has a 3" inlet and his is a 4", and his compressor side poo's on mine
