It will be much louder and will be higher pitched/raspier. Get a resonated midpipe.

Be prepared for boost creep, which a boost controller won't be able to control.

its not a stupid sound....we just say stupid around here as an expression...the Resonated MP will still be louder than stock cats with ease.

Resonated will still be louder but not as bad as unresonated. What kind of catback do you have?

Also, heed Rynberg's warning of boost spike. You're looking at spikes up to 14-15psi during transition. Your boost controller won't do anything to stop that. Stock Ecu= Motor go POP!

Well, actually the boost controller should control spiking just fine...it's the creep that will likely occur after the transition that's the problem.

And from what I understand, it will stink too. But nothing like a civic would smell like.

It will smell, it will be louder. If you will run a midpipe, I hope you have an EMS, injectors, and someone to tune it.

does the FD have a fuel cut in the ecu once you creep past a certain psi? my sti would cut fuel at 17.5 psi just wondering.

The stock ECU does. I think a PFC has an adjustable cut setting.

But still, you really don't want to run your car to fuel cut.

Again, setting your boost lower on the boost controller will not prevent creep. Running higher than stock boost levels while adding more airflow with an open exhaust is a big no-no on the stock ECU. I suggest in the least a re-flashed ECU such as the Pettit if you wish to continue on this course. Otherwise your other 2 options are porting the wastegate or popping your motor.

If you run a mid-pipe, you have only two real options to stop boost creep. Neither an ECU nor a boost controller work. (A richly tuned ecu will give you more margin against a Bad Thing, but it won't stop it).

1) Port the wastegate. The wastegate opening is the problem when you flow this much air. No electronic gadget, boost setting, or tuning will make this hole in the iron housing pass more air. Only a bigger hole.

2) Put restriction back in the system. I think it's silly to run a midpipe if you don't make the supporting adjustments (see option 1) for it. To go midpipe because it's $100 cheaper than a cat is false economy. Just choose a high-flow cat and get 9/10ths of the power gain, and be more considerate w.r.t. noise and stench, and less worry about the boost going haywire.

I recently had a similar conversation via PMs with a local forum member. He also seemed to confuse Boost Spike with Boost Creep . I hope you both re-think the mid-pipe thing. It seems easy to just unbolt that cat and put a section of pipe in there, until you realize all the collateral expense to do it correctly (safely).

Dave, you have more patience than I

For the LAST time.

CREEP happens when you have exhaust flow that overwhlems the stock wastegate. As rpm increases boost increases.

A boost controller will not do a DAMN thing for boost creep, as it simply CONTROLS boost, not limits it.

A ported wastegate will allow your system to vent enough exhaust energy away from your turbine to keep your boost creep in check.

The only other option is a more restrictive exhaust to keep creep in check.

That's it, boys and girls. Class is over

I have had to explain boost creep more than once to people but sometimes the only way they get it is from experiencing it themselves. Some people just refuse to take good advice when given.

Lol. I was extremely drunk on redbull/vodka when i typed that. When sober I typically pass up the 'boost problem' posts

Here's an example for you:

You have your boost set for 14 psi, and you are creeping to 15 psi.

Now you go and set your boost for 7 psi, but you will still creep to 15 psi.
