You're looking in the right place

It should be in the front housing right above the trailing plug. If you have a J&S sensor it might be in the rear housing above the plug.

You probably have one because I'm pretty sure w/ a stock ECU you'll run in limp mode w/o it.

That may explain limp mode I have seen people install them in the intermediate iron under neath the oil filler neck facing the front of the engine if they have their coil packs relocated. However it should be in the F housing right above the trailing plug.

well here's what i've got. Looks to me that theres no knock sensor in the front housing? How could something like this just magically dissapear? For that matter wouldn't it be hanging from the harness somewhere?

Rear housing (closest to firewall)

Front housing

That's it on the rear housing which is why perhaps the wire is torn off. I don't think it matters which housing you put it in however the harness wire is designed for it to go in the front housing and it would also likely stay cooler there.

If you need one please send me a PM.

all the black junk on the sensor is the "goo"....and you might as well replace that sensor since it will be hard as hell to repair that wire. The wire for it and connector run behind the alternator......remove it and look around until you find it...will only be one single wire.

You can find replacements fairly cheap on the forums here and I suggest repairing the whole length of wire to the ECU if it's in bad shape. You'll have problems if you dont.

I assume your throwing a CEL, correct? How is your driveability right now if you are driving? You should be running super rich and hitting fuel cut in the higher gears even if only at 10 psi

driveability = fuel cut and backfiring anywhere over positive pressure (0 psi+).
been running extremely rich for some time now (about 170 miles per tank).

In your second set of pics,in the first pic look at the single wire with the yellow band. It looks like it is going to a knock sensor toward the rear rotor. You can barely see it in the bottom of the pic. I wonder if someone relocated the knock sensor and left the original one in place.

Yes the wire and teh knock sensor are both present but no longer attached. That is why you are seeing limp mode.

For one it should be in the front housing as the wire for the knock sensor isnt really long enough for it to be mounted in the rear. It is extremely difficult to get it mounted in teh front when you still have the Power Steering/AC and try to do the install with it in the car. Likely someone in the past gave up and just threw it in the rear housing as it is easier to reach, however, this led to the wire being pulled too tight to make the connection and eventually broke at its weakest point.

DJSEVEN look at the first pic in the second set of pics. It looks like a knock sensor with a wire still attached. The weird thing is it is turned 90 degrees from how its supposed to be.

Good eye, it is installed the way I described earlier into the intermediate iron.
