- Air Pump Making Noise!!

I have been noticing noise coming from my air pump, it sounds like rubbing, at first I thought it was my turbos, but after having it checked by RPM and watching it, its making this noise, and its very very noticable.

Will simply replacing the air pump solve this? Anyone else have this happen?

I really do not want to remove it all together, since I wouldn't mind having a chance in hell in passing emissions.

Anyone know the going price for a new air pump?

Thanks

I got a used one from the forum many years ago for 40 bucks. If you don't want to keep your airpump, make sure you get the proper belt size bypassing the airpump.

The air pump on my FD squeeched loud after the car had been sitting for a couple weeks not driven due to moisture and I had to unplug the connector. Sounded worse and louder than the morning belt noise. I believe the service manual says don't put oil in that thing, but I didn't have money to buy another at the time so just decided to see if WD-40 would work and it did. I just sprayed a little into the intake pipe of the air pump and it screeched again then it went back to normal. Been good for the almost 6 months now.

Thats interesting mine is also making noise now. It is making a rattling sound and when I let off the accelerator it makes a suddens screech like the belt snagged it and spun it real fast. Not trying to but in on another persons post but a similar problem I am having, Yes? I think I may try that WD 40 thing.

P.S. I also cannot build boost now. It started at the same time any ideas on that one would be appreciated.

^^ Sounds like your air pump may be seized up. Unplug it and see if the boost works properly. I would try the WD-40 if thats your problem or buy another air pump if it's totally seized up.
