Making oil selection??
I have a 93 r1 and it has 22000 orig miles on it. I am trying to find out which oil weight to use and should I use synthetic or non synthetic. Please explain. I also use pettit's protect R and I would also like your opinion on that. I did a search but found nothing sorry if this is repost. Thanks Adam

rynberg, I think the forum might be having problems again, your link doesn't show any matches.
racerboy...The synthetic vs. non-synthetic is an eternal question. Heres a couple of links to get you started. If your a glutton for punishment, search with the word "oil" in the "title section only"

Regarding the Proteck R...IMHO, it's probably unecessary unless your tracking your car, or spending alot of time above 6k rpm. More important is to change oil frequently with a quality filter. For me, that's about every 2.5k miles.

Anyway, just search using the terms "synthetic oil" and limit the search to the last year or 6 months.
If the search doesn't work, I'll sum up the situation...
--synthetic is best! It is proven to lubricate better than dino juice and is proven to hold up better at hot temps (very important on an FD). It does NOT cause buildup, sludge or any other bullshit that some people like to throw out there. My engine internals were very clean, with zero oil-related damage at 85k miles, most of which were on synthetic (Mobil 1).

Ok here is what I am using, 20/50 non syn change oil every 2500 or 3 months which ever comes 1st. My oil pressure is really good. I have a couple different vehicles so it takes about 3 months for me to put on 2500 miles if that. Everyone says some type of synthetic but when I talked to Apexi and some other big wigs out west they say use mineral. Well I was kinda torn to listen to them because hell they could blow their **** up and have a new motor the same afternoon ya know. So I app. everyone's help and the forum definetly has taught me what not to do and what is right. Thanks guys
