maintenance questions

Hi,

I'm currently working on my RX-7 trying to do simplified sequential and changing the twin-turbo solenoids and vacuum lines, changing the oil pedestal, and other stuff.

this is my fourth day working on the car and barely making progress, I scratched the fenders more than I made progress....... does everyone find the rx7 nightmare to work on? or is it just me?

i got the UIM out cleaned it and rat nest out deleted emissions except for EGR,

but now I'm trying to unbolt the pedestal and there is one nut I can't reach it's the one above the bell housing near the firewall I don't think there is a space to fit a wrench, how do you guys reach it?

and another thing about the oil sender I'm not sure there is a space to fit a wrench between the filler neck and the pedestal mount?

how do you remove the EGR do I also need to remove the y-pipe or is there a way to reach the lower bolt?

should I take out the injector and clean them? I'm worried i won't have replacement parts to put it back together, i bought a fuel damper and realized that it doesn't come with o-ring and i also need to replace the fuel lines but I'm worried but the quality of the fuel hoses available locally.

i was smoke testing the vacuum lines for the twin turbos and i noticed some lines vent into the air filter is that how is it supposed to be? or do I have back actuators? i have issue with the secondary turbo only making 5-8psi

ok so I found out that the oil sender is 30mm and I was able to remove it easily and then I was able to fit offset wrench to remove the pedestal, I used a Miata oil drain aluminum crush washer for the banjo fitting I hope I don't have any leak issue.

tomorrow I'm gonna try removing the egr if I can do it without removing the y-pipe otherwise I'm just gonna remove the connector and vacuum hose, and I will try replacing the fuel rails lines.

Do you have a stand-alone ECU or using the stock ECU?
Your thread title indicated maintenance but this really isn’t maintenance. Why all the modifications? What issues, if any, we’re you having?

I have haltech 2500 and stock ecu, I'm using the stock to confirm the boost pattern and hp but I will be mostly using haltech once i fix all the issues (dashpot, throttle adjustment, boost pattern).

its maintenance in a sense that I'm using new OEM parts mostly and changing old brittle lines, yes there is some modification along the way, especially for emissions but my goal is to do maintenance on a 28 years old car.

the reason I'm installing bosch temp/pressure sensor is because the stock oil pressure gauge reading sometimes drops to 0 when i floor it a couple of times so when something gets hot it reads low but not sure if it faulty sender or if the oil temp gets really hot that the oil becomes water.

other issues are coolant temp reaching 107c (thermoswitch is grounded to the engine and haltech is turning the fans full speed at 82c) and iat 90c during rush hour, I'm installing fast reacting sensor and i will take the radiator apart later and clean the inside.

i also took the car to a/c shop he removed the old refrigerant and flushed the lines with water and added r-134a, he didn't change the oil or touched the high side because he doesn't have r12 fittings or even converted the fitting from r12 to r134a, the a/c was cold for maybe two days but then it leaked, i will have to find the leak my self if I wanted to get it fixed because all he did was spray water on the a/c lines and fill the system with 50psi of compressed air for two minutes to check for a leak, its probably in the evaporator core since i smelled froen for the first two days.

there are also other things i want to fix on the car but i will talk about them once i get there, now my main goal is to replace all the brittle hoses and make sure nothing leaks and put the car back together, im still debating if i should clean the injectors or leave them until i upgrade to injector dynamics.
