UIM Removal now questions

I convinced myself I needed to remove my fuel injectors and have them cleaned and balanced. My engine was sluggish, flooding terribly, and 130K never been done. Anyway, after struggling with the UIM I have some findings and questions.

There are 4 small oil and vaccum lines connected to what looks like oil injectors. One of the oil lines was broken and brittle (I found my small oil leak). One of the vacccum lines is brittle and has broken. How would this have effected the engine performance? Where can I find a replacement vaccum line (one large line from the UIM to a cluster w/ 4 smaller lines going to the oil injectors)?

The area is filthy any recomendations for cleaning (yes, I have the intake ports plugged)?

Moving to the other side of the UIM nearest the fuel line for the lower rail. There are vaccum lines with colored electric connectors attached. Closest to the fuel line are what look like *****, but are hollow plastic with filters. Two are broken off, will it hurt anything leaving the broken pieces off?

Anything else to consider while the UIM is off?

Go to a good auto parts store, you can get vaccum hose, I'd just go ahead and replace all of it. As for the oil injector line, use small (chainsaw, weed-eater grade) fuel hose, it's clear and not brittle like the original. As for cleaning, I'd use simple green, you can get it anywhere.

For the vacuum lines to the oil injector, look for the "vacuum spider" here: http://www.mazdatrix.com/c-5.htm Go ahead and do all them then (especially since they are sold as a kit....) since the rest are probably brittle as well.

The solenoids with the air filters can be had from the wrecking yard for cheap or try the for sale section on this forum. If just the filter is broken I doubt there is significant damgage being done with the small amount of unfiltered air. Repair as soon as is practical.

Using the fuel line for small engines as described above is a very good repair, although I don't have enough to do and have been eyeballing the tiny/small copper tubing at my local Pepboys and am thinking about maybe installing hard oil metering pump lines using ....that copper tubing. I think it's doable. A little solder here, a little soldering there a little bending here and there, and walla, hard omp lines.

Thanks, I like practical suggestions that are inexpensive improvements.

Any idea how the disconnected oil injector line would have effected performance?

I've read various posts with varied information about fuel injector cleaning. I have to believe cleaning will improve performance. The intakes, rails, and injectors were filthy!! Besides finding the oil leak alone was worth the trip beneath the UIM.

The broken oil line doesn't exactly effect performance, but it does cause increased wear in the engine due to inadaquate lubrication. I would fix it immediately. If you can't, premix a little, like 250:1 (1/2 oz premix to 1 gal. gas) until you can.
I've also heard of using teflon hoses for new omp lines. Thats prob what I'm gonna do because one of my lines broke when disconnecting the oil nozzle.
