M2 turbo upgrade

When you send your turbos to M2 to get upgraded, do they do a whole rebuild to make the turbos like new or just upgrade the turbines etc to make them produce more power.

Their website www.m2performance.com states that they use garrett ball-bearing turbos and mate them to the original housing.

I remember reading somewhere that RX-7's don't have something other than garrett turbos so I am assuming that they give you new turbos.

The stock turbos are Hitachi HT-12's. So by assumption, I believe Garrett is right, they must replace the entire cartridge with new units and the housings machined to accept them.

You don't send your turbos to M2. They send you all new high flow ball bearing turbos on a new exhaust manifold.

You DO send your core to M2 or one of their dealers like RX7 Store and they take your turbo and replace the Hitachi's with Garret 25's. FULL ballbearing tubo units. They port the wastegate and can have them run in parrallel or sequential. The iron cast manifold you have remains the same. BASICALLY, A new twin turbo. Nice unit but just as much as a single turbo setup. Easy to do because it bolts up. Gives a lot more power than stock twins!

Didn't you have to send in your core, or did you pay extra to keep it?

New exhaust manifild? I thought they just bored out the stock unit? I think they should make a stainless steel manifold for it.

If they made a new manifold out of inconel, you could get the full 800HP out of those puppies (but it would probably cost another $3k).

Well,
I believe the site mentions something about "usable core"..... capt.bill1, how long ago did you get your upgrade? What did it cost.

i sent my cores...but I think you can get them without.

my manifold was cracked to bits....I got my m2 set with a new manifold...new actuators...new everything...the only thing they used was the snails...and the y pipe which had to be modified.

What did it run you w/ all new parts? I'm assuming more than the 3k they list for?

Wow. It would be worth picking up a blown set for the conversion to keep the stockers for that price. Did you go directly to M2, or someone else, like RX7store? How long was the turnaround? (sorry for all the questions)

Is it possible to get m2 to make a tubular exhaust manifold? That damn log style manifold is a huge bottleneck...

do any of you guys with the m2 upgrade have dyno #'s?
my turbo's have had enough and it's time for an upgrade. i'm sure they spool like a ****, but do they make the power of a single???

From reading artguy's other post about them, they not only spool fast but do produce alot more power than the stocks. They can go up to 20 psi from what i've heard as well. I think artguy is gonna have them dyno'ed in a week or so.

soon I hope....Im sorry for taking so long. Im probably looking more at 30 days for the numbers...

being a power greedy bastard Im considering having the next larger wheel size up in them...first its 300 hp..if I only had 300hp...then its 335...oh my god the car would scream at 335...then its 375...holy **** that must be fast...then 400...then...yer broke...but you go for 450 anyway.

I found out that they make a larger wheel size on the gt30s...I saw them on another local car as they were going in. as is to be expected you would lose a little spoolup time but brett from m2 (formerly) claimed that the larger size would hit 450hp which is the peak due to the manifold restriction....since they spool instantly it wouldnt be much of an issue Id think.

just thinking about it....up to 50 additional hp...mmm....yum yum

i don't understand why anyone would pay $2995 for this set of turbos when you can go single for less....This turbo kit has been out for what, 2 years already and how come no one has had ANY dyno charts to justify spending $3000 over a single turbo?

if you Absolutley must keep a sequential twin turbos, why would anyone not consider getting the 99 twins instead?
