Question Low oil pressure or electrical glitch?

now some background , I did a track day yesterday ..

one of my turbo's oil seals went so I'm smoking oil

And This other little issue is happening https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7st...ature=youtu.be

is this an electrical gremlin ?? or is oil just escaping through the turbo???

wouldnt that happen at any psi ?? I'm trying to see if anyone has had similar issues as to weather this is a REAL issue or if this is just some electrical gremlin from the oil pressure sensor , or the gauge , or something else .

The stock oil pressure gauge is not accurate. Yes there is some sort of glitch. This is a common issue on these cars. If you want to know what your oil is really doing you'll need to use an aftermarket gauge.

Thank you , I'm just wondering if its physically possible for the seal to well unseal itself suddenly above 5k rpms , then close up again under there it makes no sense in my mind but I'm not hte sharpest tool in the shed

I see two possibilities to explain that behavior:

  1. Bad oil pressure sender or electrical gremlin. Bad senders are common on these cars.
  2. Weak oil pressure control valve that is opening at too low of a pressure.
If your turbo seal was leaking enough oil to drop the pressure that much then you'd likely be seeing MASSIVE amounts of smoke.

What JM1FD said. It's usually the oil pressure sending unit and not the gauge.

OK So to discount one when cold if I rev it oil pressure reaches 120 this is experimental cold rev to see what it did so oil pressure valve seems good

Also I am getting quite a bit of smoke when idle or off throttle butnot that much when on the gas

Again not flooring it down the highway or anything I mean normal driving

as i can say, when warm, idles around 900rpm, oil pressure around 55ish psi but i seeing oil leaking to manifold
would pressure relief valve be the problem here?

That's scary...
I had that happen on my Spec Miata. Wound up having internal engine damage. Haven't taken the bottom end apart yet to figure out exactly what failed but the cam bearing surfaces were shot.
I'd get some oil sample kits from Blackstone and take a sample of the oil. With fresh oil, see if the behavior persists. Fresh oil in my miata 'fixed' the issue - no longer had oil pressure issues but the damage was done.
Also consider replacing the oil pressure sensor as a precautionary measure.
