You're running a base tune on a brand new engine? That's insane man, even with a mildly modifed car, the base maps that come with the PFC can create more damage than the factory ECU. This is on the front page of your PFC owner's manual. Tune the car asap and stop driving it like that.
+1 on reading the FAQs for reliability mods and also all solenoids are still available brand new from Mazda for the twin turbos.

I briefly ran a jdm oem ecu and the car idled like crap and ran pig rich. Would stall out if i let off the throttle too quick with AC on. Probably because i have too many of the oem idle control mechanisms deleted. (Only kept the icv)
the base tune on the PFCs run fine and wont do any immediate damage with how little mileage the car is seeing. Car hasnt been driven on the PFC base map yet, i did break in using the ecu it came with from japan which is an "ECO cpu" ecu which is a significantly modified version of the oem ecu with custom eeprom & intel processor.
Car ran the best on that out of the 3 ecu options i had, probably since it was tuned for the limited mods the car has. (Catless exhaust) so i opted to use it for break-in. Worked like a charm. But i dont have the tools or skills to tune it when the tune is stored on an EEPRom chip and everything else on the board including the intel chip is also ancient.
Once i work my way through all the reliability mods and all the old crusty sensors itll be getting a proper tune on the pfc. (There are a lot of crusty sensors)
This is a performance report for the default 5.08 date file or base tune, conducted by FC Tweak. As shown, the engine safety rating is very poor. This report was generated BEFORE importing a log file, indicating that the base tune is already flawed prior to any tuning adjustments. You're right; you won't see any immediate damage running the base tune, but it's likely shaving life off the engine every time you drive it. I'm not surprised it runs better with the ECU from Japan, as you mentioned; it was tuned by its tuner. Speaking of tuners, I'd get an ECU that your tuner prefers. If they don't know jack **** about using a PowerFC, then using a PowerFC is a waste of time.

Yep im aware that the base map isnt exactly safe. The plan was to tune it myself first as i had some basic experience tuning the 13b msp on my past rx8, but i havent been able to source the serial interface yet for the pfc.
Ill probably just bring it to IRP once all the reliability mods and maintenance are done and get it tuned right.
