Hi guys

i'm new to it so please forgive me if you think i'm asking about something obvious.

basically i need these things replaced:

-radiator
-intercooler
-crankshaft pulleys
-auxillary belt (there is something about it tho, i want to remove aircon unit, and when i do that i will need a shorter belt- so where can i get it from?)
-rear gearbox seal
- my exhaust is leaking between down pipe and centre section - need to replace the seal
-spark plugs(i think i can do this one )
-nearside front absorber
- power steering liquid is leaking from pump area- i think i need to replace whole pump
-rev counter is sticking so i think it needs to be replaced


what i need to know is what from this list i can do by myself, how to do it and what do i need to get it done(for example radiator - do i have to get it from underneath? does it mean i need an Air Jack Lift?).If there is something i can't do it myself could you please explain why(if i need some special tools or something)

if you want to know if im mechanically inclined ill say - if you tell me how to - i'll do it

could someone please spare some time and answer at least few questions?

First I suggest you get a copy of the Factory Service Manual, or download a copy. Search and you should be able to find a link to the pdf file. It is actually pretty good at explaining most things. Some more searching will give you some "how-to" write ups on various things.

I'm NOT mechanically inclined so I'll tell you what I would do myself.

-radiator (depending on what radiator you want to put in. I'm not into making fitment modifications.)
- Intercooler (same as above)
- Shocks. If I can do it, anyone can.
-Air pump elimination. I would tackle this one as well if I was going to eliminate mine but I believe you can't just eliminate it, you need to replace it with a pulley to get the belts to work correctly. I could be wrong however.

Anything beyond that list is way beyond my meager abilities. However, there will be more mechanically gifted folks who will tell you that all of the things you want to do are very easy.

could you please tell me something, basically when i change the auxillary belt(lets say ill stay with aircon unit for a while) what do i need to do? (and same with pulleys) do i need to make sure they in some sort of order? have they got any marks on them so i have to mount them back as it was before? and how do i take the belt off? by taking one of them pulleys off?

Again, I suggest you get the FSM. I'm sure it will give a description.

I don't know any of those answers but my first step always is to RTFM. If that fails, then I start to search online for already posted information. After all that fails, only then will I dare ask.

I did all those things except the diff seal (plus quite a bit more) and I'm moderately mechanically inclined. Lots of good DIY info on this site. Use the search function. Shop Manual is good to have but pretty useless when modifying car; i.e. fitting an after market radiator.

As long as it is not your daily driver, take it one project at a time. Search this site and the web for DIY sites and, as stated above, ask here only after you have put some effort into finding it yourself.

how do i do that? could someone please explain it to my step by step? please....
i have never done it before, just don't wan to do nothing wrong...

basically on saturday ill have some time so what i wanted to do is:

-replace radiator(got a new, aluminium one)
-replace bottom crankshaft pulley(my one is dented and its damaging the auxilary belt)
-replace other pulleys(got a nice set - aluminium ones)
-replace drive belt
-replace rear brake pads
-replace nearside front shock absorber

ill probably try to replace the hose for power steering pump, maybe that will prevent it from leaking, if not ill try to get this power steering pump and replace it, and also i will check the leak on exhaust(i have got a leak between down pipe and a centre section)

could someone please spare some time and tell me how to do it? like step by step? little how to kinda thing...i don't want to break my car

I think your going to have a hard time finding a total step by step write up on everything.Do you have any friends that have worked on cars before?You don't want to fool around with your cooling system unless you know what you are doing.I've seen writeups for the shocks and brakes before but i never paid attention to where they were b/c i didn't need them.The pullies are very simple,just use an impact gun and zip them off.Do some searches and browse the FAQ,you should find something.

IMHO, if it's stock....leave it that way until you know more about the car. This is especially true if your not experienced with things mechanical. That's not to say you need to have a shop do EVERYTHING, but work into stuff gradually. Some of the things you have on your list could be considered "advanced".
Modifications, like larger intercoolers and over-sized pulleys bring with them a domino effect of other issues that need to be dealt with. Work on repairs and maintenance first. Get a copy of the FSM, search and read here and go after it.

I'll make one specific recommendation....before you toss out your Power Steering pump, clean it up thoroughly and watch it for the next few days to determine exactly where it's leaking. It could be something as simple as tightening up a hose clamp.
