Question License plate?

My car doesn't have a front license plate and I have been driving it around for awhile without probs (knock on wood). Hearing cases of other people getting unnecessary tickets for not having a front plate, I know I am going to have to put one on. Does anybody know where I can get a plate holder that can flip itself down and conceal the plate? If not, where can I get a regular mounting kit and where is the best place to mount it? I don't want to restrict any airflow. As much as I don't favor having the front plate on my FD, I am still going to have to get one. *Rant* Front plates steal the look from the car. BTW any pics of anyone's front plate setup would be much appreciated.

I went to a hardware store and bought nickel plated corner braces. They have held up well. I'll try to get pics.

Well it depends on what state you live in. And by your "location" under your avatar, I'll guess you're not wanting to give up that info. Anyway, most states don't require it. Some do. There was a thread a while ago in the lounge where a guy had created a flip up plate thingy.

get a '99 spec bumper

you could always get one of those cool japanese folding mounts. when you hit a certain speed, it folds under so that cameras along the highway can't get a shot of their plate when speeding. them darned japs are crazy! lol

you know, you know own an rx-7 when you start saying knock on wood when you talk about your car or not having problems. Knock one wood. Last time I checked atleast lot's of states they don't require fron't licence plates. Most cops try to sneak up from behind, not straight on. Imagine playing chicken with a cop on the interstate. But in all seriousness. I don't think you have to have a front plate and it also visually messes with the curves and maybe not much but aerodymanics. Plus unless you had a bumper with a plate holder wouldn't that restrict airflow into the front dam?

oh.. word to the japanese and sucks to live in texas. way to add to any heating problems.

Keep it in your car, if you get pulled over kindly tell the cop that you've ordered the factory plate holder, but it's on back order and you'll put it on the car as soon as the plate holder comes in. He'll probably tell you to be safe and have a nice day.

Nothing ever works me, I am just attract to cops. But I still rather not have a front plate, they are just way to UGLY for the 7. I even took off the winshield wiper off. Just dont drive in the rain. Luckily I am inthe SoCal, and it only rains once a while... .

I have lived in TX for 5 yrs. now w/o a front plate, haven't gotten any grief yet from the men in blue yet, i stress the yet part, as i knock on wood, i wouldn't worry about it, most cops don't really care, they usually have something more important to attend to.

Thank you for your input everybody. Now a part of me wants to continue driving w/o the plate. I guess I'll bite the bullet on this one and take the risk. I'd rather drive w/o the plate than have heating problems with the plate on. I can position the mount above the airdam, but it will break up the beautiful lines of the car. I have one big dilemma now. Keep the input coming nonetheless. oh btw, 911GT2 and teamstealth, I'll keep that one in mind (I hope the time never comes that I have to use it).

I might want to throw this in also.
I know somebody that got a ticket for no front plate on his NSX. Regardless of the reasons he gave the officer, he still recieved the ticket and had to pay. A possible factor would possibly be owning a sports car. They expect that you can pay these rediculous fines solely for driving a sports car.

As have I in Texas. I have had my FD since June of 1999 and never had a problem. I have had two or three tickets and they never said anything about the plate.

My car prior to this was an 85 prelude and twice I got a ticket for no plate. Once that was the only reason he pulled me over, and another time he added it to the ticket.

I guess they figure FD's don't have a place for a plate so they don't call us on it.

I got pulled over by a statey in Dallas two weeks ago for speeding, following too close, expired inspection, and he still didn't give me a ticket for no front plate, if a statey doesn't no one will hopefully. BTW i only got a ticket for the inspection, warnings for the others. Cool *** cop. Cross that bridge when u come to it.

While I'm not Mr. Moneybags, my main concern is whether a ticket carried w/ it any points, and if it's a fix-it ticket or not.

I don't believe failure to display fron license plate is a fix-it ticket, nor do I believe that it carries any points. Pay that ish and be on your way! lol

It's like people complaining about red light cameras. Sure, it sucks to get caught and have to pay the fine, but c'mon now, you're getting a FREEBEE. The camera can't ascertain who's driving, so you pay the fine and you're on your way. No points, nada. It doesn't get better than that.

You have some serious issues with your car if it overheats with the license plate.

Where do people come up with this ****???

LOL! LMAO...it won't be as aerodynamic, and sure, you may get slightly less air into the front spoiler, but overheating? lol

Like Fumanchu said, if your car is gonna overheat from a front license plate, you got bigger issues on your hands...

It was just a thought. Unless you've had it happen you can only speculate. So, let me know when you've proved otherwise. You don't have to take a simple thing and blow it out of proportion. The more airflow under the hood the better. You could start arguing things like how effective/much good a fresh air head light duct cover would do. More air to the intake...For whatever reason.. the more things there are to restrict airflow under your hood usually means more problems chance of a problem. Put a glass over a candle and the flame goes out. you should patch the front of your car up and take it for a spin in 90+ degree weather. the heat will have nowhere to go. The temperature under the hood will rise. That part was just specualtion/theory. Race cars are aerodynamically designed. Given we're not driving f1's but when was the last time you saw a race inspired car with a big *** plate in the front? Even advertising? Everything count's. Unless you're already driving a brick.

I went 4 years without a front plate on my FD. I finally got nailed about a month ago in some small hick town by their Barney Fife. I was pulling out of a gas station when he saw me and circled for me. $30 ticket, but unfortunately I go through that town 2 times a month and he will be looking for me now I will try the front window for a while and see if that keeps him happy. If not I guess a flip plate is in order.

80 kmh = 49.6 mph

1.6 kmh = 1 mph or 1 kmh = .62 mph
