So it's flipped up at roughly 50mph? Not bad I guess.

I refuse to have a front plate...it actually saved my *** from a "serious" ticket once. Let me explain, the cop was really cool and wanted to give me a break for flying through the intersection, but didn't want to feel like a wuss to his partner for letting me go...so he told me he would slap me with only a front plate ticket this time HAHA...I think it's a psycological thing. I fabbed up a temporary plate holder to clear the ticket...

Yeah I never have run a front plate on ANY car in 15 years of living in my state.... not one problem yet!

I do keep the extra plate under the spare tire with a couple zip ties though.... If I am at a car meet and the cops "bust" it and start handing out "no front plate" tickets, I can quickly zip tie it on and drive past them and be legal.

out of two times getting stopped, the cop asked me why i didnt have a front plate, and i simply told him that because my car is over 10 years old, it is really hard to find one that fits it. He didnt ask any more questions after that. I refuse to put a front plate on my car. Unless i start getting pulled over every couple weeks or so for it.

If you get a ticket, like I recently did. Dont sweat it, tell the judge that you had it wired to the bottom of the lip and "well I guess it finally just gave and I lost it somwhere on the highway. It happened just recently and I was actually on my way to the courthouse to get two new plates when I got pulled over." It works every time. The courts really dont give a **** and I dont know why cops even give the ticket. I've had this happen to me 4 times and every time I've pleaded not guilty and got it dropped.

LOL! Adam, I like that one a lot. That, and I'm pretty sure you can claim the car never came w/ a front plate holder (they never had any on new ones at dealerships, did they??)

they did.

and the factory licence plate frame doesn't really even block much airflow at all.

Sweet. I want one of these now. I have never had any experience with purchasing anything overseas. If you buy this, tell me how it goes. This thing kind of gives a "JDM" look to the car.

In the case that I can't get this one, where can I get a factory mount?

I got one that fits just fine, but I took it off one of the new Miatas on the dealership floor haha

It's got two holes that fit on stock bolts under the top lip of the front spoiler, and it sticks out, so the plate sits ABOVE the air dam, not blocking airflow at all.

I'm also asking $25 shipped (I can get a pic of it, but don't have one w/ it on the car, since I don't have a stock front end anymore) PM me if you're interested.

I don't get what you're trying to say. I have an R1 lip that is on the car.

I think this is the same one I have... mine might sit *slightly* higher tho, as to not block any part of the front airdam at all

EDIT: actually, I'm pretty sure mine sits higher than that...I was real happy cuz of that, since it cleared the airdam. I think the one you're lookin at is the stock FD plate holder. Mine, again, is off a Miata, so it has more clearance.

You can get a license plate bracket from TeamMiata that folds the plate down at speed - about 50 - and fits the existing holes in the RX 7. Costs about $30. Works great too. Go to www.teammiata.com and search for license plate bracket.

2 1/2 years with no front plate. No tickets. Not worth marring your bumper or restricting airflow, imo

I also have one I'd part with (seems $25 shipped is the going rate). It is like FDNewbie's. It was on the car when I bought it and I took it off the first day. I have had no trouble with any cops (2+ years). I suppose as soon as I sell it I'll get a ticket though. Kind of like having a tow rope in your race car (never need it until you plan for it).

oh snap...not to restart anything but I just had to point out..

At the same time, it also benefits the cooling system of the vehicle by allowing more frontal air flow to enter & cool the intercooler, turbocharger & engine bay.

A new product to attach your car's number/license plate, the State of the Art Bracket Holder. This bracket is installed with a flexible spring to enable the bracket to retract by flipping backward to a horizontally position into the bumper. This is due to strong forces generated by air flow at high vehicle speeds from 80 kmh onwards. As a result, the number/license plate details are hidden from view. With this product, the driver do not have to worry about speed traps camera where speed limits are restricted to 80 kmh and below. This product is also suited to circuit driving where it eliminates the hassle of removing & installing the number/license plate before & after driving.

At the same time, it also benefits the cooling system of the vehicle by allowing more frontal air flow to enter & cool the intercooler, turbocharger & engine bay.

peace

I would definitely look at the actual law that relates to the front plates for your state. In Nevada, I got pulled over in my 2000 eclipse for not having a front plate and he let me off and gave me a copy of the law because I had the plate in the trunk. It said that if the car was MANUFACTURED to have a spot for the front plate, it has to be there, but if it did not come from the factory with a spot, it is not required. FDs dont come with a mounting point, so its not required in Nevada. Check with Texas because it may be similar.
