leaking omp lines
leaking omp lines
I noticed today that my omp lines are really brittle and have cracked wide open and leaking small amounts of oil. I have searched and come to the conclusion it will be a big job to fix, and its something I can't do right away. The car is my daily driver and I was wondering if it will be safe to drive if for a week or two just running 2 cycle oil mixed in the fuel tank. I bought some standard havoline 2 cycle oil today and put in about 6oz with a full tank of gas. Is that a good amount to add? Until I get it fixed I'll just have to keep an eye on the oil level and deal with the dripping oil. What do you guys think? Thanks.

That's a good route to take. It will end up making a bit of a mess, but the motor won't mind running on premix instead for a week.
If you haven't dug that deep before, give yourself a weekend to do the job. Take your time. I'd just get a new set of stock OMP lines - they're good for a LONG time before they get brittle again, like over 100,000 miles.

Should I have put in more 2 cycle oil? I read some people are using 1oz/gallon. Any recommendations as to how much I should add? Also will it mix in with the fuel ok if I add the premix after having a full tank of gas already in there? Next time I will add the premix first so it gets distributed more evenly.

I don't have any experience with these lines but they look like they would be good.
Oil injection isn't an exact science and '93-'95 RX-7's are known for marginal oil injection anyway. Running without any oil in your combustion chamber won't suddenly lock up your motor after a minute or so like lack of oil for the bearings. You still want to premix until replacing OMP lines but you don't need to worry about it mixing perfectfully and such.
