Leaking coolant

First off, I would like to say I used the search and I couldn't find anything - perhaps I'm an idiot. Now, the other day as I was walking away from my FD after a short drive I noticed I was leaking coolant. At first it was leaking on the passenger side but I heard that was okay because it was just draining out excess coolant. But then when I drove home (short drive) it started leaking in the middle. Is this normal? Any responses would be highly appreciated.

I think you are in for some fun!!

It's either one of the two heater hoses on the passenger side firwall, or one or both of the turbo coolant hoses, or...my guess, the coolant hose that goes from the back of the TB to the top of the block.

Did you look under the hood for popped/split hoses? That would be first on the to-do list.

Generally, leaking coolant in an FD (or any other rotary for that matter) is never "good," although if it was overfilled then yes, it can spill from your overflow tank. Look under the hood and see if that is where it is coming from. If not, you have a more serious problem that would need to be addressed before you drive it any more. Whatever you do, don't overheat the thing,

It is not normal.

Take off that underbelly pan and find out. The overflow tank on the passender side will leak when overfilled, and if driving the g-forces could send that coolant leak onto/through the belly pan. Use the dipstick to check its level.

Or maybe it's a leaking hose - above that pan you'll find turbo coolant hoses (2), radiator hoses (2) water pump-heater hose, AST hoses, etc. Only one way to find out - take things apart and find the source.

i have also recently started leaking coolant however im pretty sure of where mines coming from. I think i have a leaking radiator since its still the stocker(but not for long). Try checking your radiator for spills on it if its still the stock.

Either 1 of the radiator hoses or one of the turbo coolant hoses as mentioned above. Of course the turbo hoses will be a pain but you might want to check them all, if one is leaking who knows how long for the others. Whatever you do DON'T top off the coolant and think its ok to drive for short distances. I had to replace all my hoses around 65k or so. Good luck

Take off the undertray and look for dark green. It could be any number of things. Check every hose you see under there, although that far up, it is very unlikely that it's the turbo coolant hoses, or the heater hoses, but you never know. The undertray does mysterious things to coolant. My turbo leak migrated to the drivers side because of it along the cross member and undertray.

I just had the old stock coolant hose burst on me, it is definitely not normal to be leaking coolant. I think you most likely have to replace the top and bottom radiator hoses that connect to the engine directly. They get brittle over time from the excessive heat. Call Malloy's for prices I got both for less then $35 shipped. Ask for Ray 888-533-3400
