Eliminating the AST doesn't necessarily cause problems. It's a more of a pain to burp the system since you don't have any extra help removing air. However there are many people running without and AST and don't have any problems.

I chose to replace mine. I like the idea of the AST and the extra coolant.

I don't think you'll be able to post attachments until the forum has moved to a cluster setup. You might want to look for an alternative way to host pictures (like ImageStation).

i'm pretty sure there is no aluminum check valve on the non-seqential setup... i don't see any solenoids or any **** like that on my intake tract.

Oh and i did replace my FPD tonight and i noticed a big difference in the car. I no longer smell any fuel under boost, (cept out the tailpipe) but now i think i'm going to put it on the dyno and get the damn PFC tuned. It still breaks up, but mainly because its running pig rich. But the break up isn't as bad as it was and i'm able to pull past 6k now. My grounds were all good, and now its just dyno time and a wideband O2 that will tell the tale.

Thanks.

pete

Hey Pete,

You did the full non seq conversion?

I got a question for you if you did.

Are you running straight line from FPR to LIM or any nipple? Or are you running it through teh FPR solenoid.... Im tryign to figure out if this is the culprit for my car going bonkers on me recently.

ill back everyone up for going with bruce. he rebuilt my engine nearly a year ago and have had no problems since. definately a good guy to get parts from and will answer just about any question you can think up.

as for your turbos, you should leave them sequential. you WILL be much happier with them that way then non-sequential. i did the non-sequential mod to try to cover up a larger underlying problem. found out my turbos were fine and the smoke was just cause i was running rich.

make absoulute sure that when you put your motor back in, no matter which setup you go with, that you put the pills, carb jets in wastegate and turbo control vaccum hoses, back in. i made this mistake and it cost me about 4 lbs, 6 months of irritation, and about $300.

also you may want to spend the extra $10 on the mazda thermostat just to be on the safe side. these things tend to get pretty hot if you dont use the right parts.

good luck with everything.

Yes i have a vacuum line running from the LIM to the FPR directly. I have the full non seq conversion, none of that B.S. "cheap man" conversions. I have a ported wastegate, the whole nine yards, no emissions equipment, no solenoids... all that crap is gone.

Aside from adding a turbo rebuild, the rest of the things I suggested I believe should be done if you can.

Excellent mod. Did that before datalogit came out for the PFC. Also a Honda thermosensor will work as well FYI.
