Just got my new Spirit R!......
Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and was just wondering that as the owner of a 2002 RX-7 with 46 000K's, what types of engine/gearbox oil/coolant you'd recommend. Should I go and purchase a metal AST, or are the plastic ones in these later models OK?.I'm on the North Shore in Sydney and was wondering if you can recommend a good place for servicings/engine work?
thanks again,
Raffmeister

Congrats! I would go w/ neo synthetic in the gear box and tranny. You can go w/ an aftermarket ast. or eliminate it altogether. I run 50/50 coolant and distilled water. I am in a subtropical climate. Never see freezing temps long enough to make a change. Doubt you do for very long where you are. Just "burp" the coolant system to relieve al the air bubbles. G

Thanks for the replie's guys!...
I have been in love with the FD since the first time I saw one back in the early 90's and vowed "one day" I'll have of of those!, anyway when I learned about the Spirit R, then a few years later I saw a local importer selling them I went bananas and had to have one.My very first drive in an FD was a Spirit R and I was hooked!, anyway about a month ago I seriously started looking for one and approached the same dealer ( IMG Imports in Sydney), they had one that I was ready to look at but sold it before I could have a look, and said it was getting very hard to source them now (especially in the Titanium colour) so I started scouring the websites and sure enough the very same Spirit was for sale!, it was bought by a young asian bloke whose wife was forcing him to sell it after only 3 months in order to place a deposit on a block of land. He had fitted a HUGE subwoofer/amp across the entire length of the rear compartment.I told him If I buy the car that thing would have to go as I was looking for a car in as original condition as possible, so we negotiated the price down, I had the vehicle mechanically inspected and the rest is history!.
I'm just waiting on the insurance company to process my policy as I'm not game to take it on the road (I was crapping myself just driving it home!) till all the paperwork is finalised. It's frustrating having a new toy for Xmas and not being able to play with it yet!. I must admit it drew lots of attention as I was taking her home, as FD's are a rare sight on Sydney roads, let alone a Spirit!. Once I figure out how to post pics I'll add some. Oh and JP'93 FD, I know your neck of the woods well as I used to fly KGO Jetcopter AM810 around the San Fran Bay Area!

Where's the pics?
I often see so many threads of people saying they just bought a pretty much brand spanking new FD but never a pic in sight.
On that note I just sold my beloved Series 6 yesterday so a newer FD is on its way as well.

Sorry guys, not meaning to rub it in!.....
I really appreciate all the congrats, I'm really surprised and humbled.I just can't tell you how lucky I am in that a 15 year infatuation with a piece of sexy metal has ended with the ultimate version. I seriously considered getting a silver 2002 RS and then pimping her up (she was 10K cheaper than the Spirit) but I knew I would always long for the Spirit. The previous owner was an unreliable PITA to deal with and I seriously was about to get an importer to source one for me till he advised me to buy the one I was looking at as he remembered the car and said it was in great shape for the mileage so I took the plunge and bought it as opposed to possibly missing out.
Mr Nizzles, an 2000-2002 FD can go for between 30k-40k AUD depending upon mileage and options. There are 2 Spirit R's for sale on websites here in Sydney as I type this, one IBM and one Titanium.I test drove the blue one and was disappointed in that it has a partial Mazdaspeed body kit (no hood or "bonnet" as we call it) and not the original Spirit BBS wheels, they look like cheap copies of the RZ wheels. The paint job on the rear bumper/skirt was riddled with bubbles/blisters. The Titanium one doesn't have the original Spirit wheels either and is a type A but with the red leather seats from a type B, so it's a hybrid I guess. Again, I wasn't interested because it wasn't in original condition. Both dealers are asking mid 40k for them.
JTurtonRX_7, I do realise that you guys didn't get the latter versions, as I used to live in California, let me assure you I do realise how lucky I am to have obtained my dream car after a 15 year wait!
rexhvn I think if you play the cards right you'll find the right vehicle for you by just seeing what's out there and being patient.....worked for me!
thanks again guys for your input,
Raff.
