JDM to USDM comparison?

I got a book here in Japan (im in summer school here) so much fun and so many cool cars. Anyway it is called "i love FD3S RX-7" and it shows every year different model of RX-7 since 1991. of course these are JDM cars. Now what im wondering is how those early cars compare to the US versions of the RX-7. I know we never got the '99 spec like the Spirit R. where it got the new face lift.

I only knwo of two types of RX-7 in the US. the R1 (which my father has) and the Touring package. i knwo the R1 has the front tower strut bar and twin oil coolers. and the lip spoiler. and no rear windshield wiper. and the touring is the opposite. Which JDm version is the R1 more similar to? The RZ or another RX-7?

What is the JDM equivilant to the '93 R1 RX-7? Thanks

I'd guess the RZ but I'm not incredibly knowledgable on the JDM models.

The RZ would be a pretty similar equivalent to the R1/R2 packages offered in the US. The RZ was only offered in white I believe. This model included the RZ badges, different suspension package, different rims and rubber, white gauges (I think) and Recaro seats from what I remember. I never read anything regarding dual oil coolers but I wouldn't doubt it has them.

and please correct me of anything I missed or was wrong about.

on another un-related note: sweat mother of pearl who is the girl on the right in your sig kyle, kinda looks like Britney Spears.......muy bueno......

the 2001 RZ is a special model rx7..it is only offered in snow white pearl mica. only 150 cars were madeor something like that. you can get another year rz in almost any color. the 93-95 usa cars and the 92-95 jdm cars are the same. base, touring, r1. 96 up is where the jdm cars started getting improvements

Yeah, the US mode is from 91-95 with 255hp and same as JDM at that period. 96-98 with 16bit ECU have 265hp and 99up have 280 hp

that link sums it up - but a few key points that seem to be consistantly wrong by posters - the run was 91.12 - 02.08. Major revisions in 95.04, 96.01 and 99.01.

I have a type r II

and, using that link as a guide, I should say "type r version 2", not a "type r II"
