Why would you buy a JDM motor? There is no functional difference, other than the EGR is removed, which would make it difficult to pass if you have a 93-94 Cali car.

Just rebuild your own motor.

Umm...the MOTORs are the SAME. The MANIFOLDS are different. If you were to use a JDM motor with US manifolds it would pass.

However...for the life of me I don't understand what the big deal is with "JDM" motors. Seriously...they are the same.

I think that there might be a benefit... Seems to me that most, if not all US motors have been rebuilt at least once. If you can get your hands on a newer JDM motor you are getting much newer internals that likely have not seen a rebuild. I'm not sure that that buys you much, but I have heard that the e-shaft can often get tweaked when the motor lets go.

Also...(as was the case for me)... if you are really lucky, your motor might come with the 280hp twins.

It's not the motor that makes it 280HP. They run higher boost, different ECU, etc..

Avoid the Mazda dealer at all cost. Where do you live in Cali?

Just adding the 99' Spec turbos alone will not make the car 280 HP.

You could use a US motor w/ JDM manifolds, right? Any specific benifit to that? (do they flow better, etc)?

considerably? ie, worth the price (whatever that is, being that they have to come from j-land...)? and are they pretty much bolt on, or are there modifications necessary to install them?

I can see the LIM bolting on to the 99 turbos, but can they still bolt on to the stockers?

And what about the UIM...will it fit? That's got nothing to do w/ the turbos...

my motor let go also and my friends were going to get me a whole JDM front clip for $2,200. I thought this would be better because I don't know if one of the apex seals tore up my turbos. Should I get the JDM motor or just rebuild or buy a reman? the JDM would give me a tranny, turbos and motor but for the same price I can get a reman. Please give me your opinions.
