Now, with better FD's in at least the high 20's, you would think they would come around to seeing what's going on, if not why. No, it makes my car more valuable.

I guess some people really see the FD as a nice car, but as a stepping stone of some sort to cars they really like better. I have often thought about getting a totally stock FD and might still someday, regardless of the prices. However, I have some other cars I like as well and a rapidly growing collection of motorcycles, so the only way I get a stock FD is selling my current one.

Ive driven all 3 cars mentioned and spent a considerable amount of time in the FD and Supra. The FD by far offers the most fun experience. The attention the Supra and NSX garner is on another level though if that is what you are after.

To not mention the rx7's short comings is to be completely biased and unfair. While the RX7 offers an unbelievable driving experience, the actual quality of the car is pretty shitty. From the factory paint quality, factory reliability, bushing failure at low mileage and then the laughable interior quality you are simply lying to yourself if you think the FD has anywhere near the same build quality as the other cars mentioned.

The Supra is/was the ultimate muscle car from Japan until the newer GTR. It literally had a nearly two decade span of dominance and made Japanese cars relevant in the drag scene. I dont think the Supra is a great looking car but it isnt ugly either. It is extremely rare and has a huge following. A 10,000 original mile FD is worth around $28-35k depending on the model. A 10,000 original mile supra is pulling $80K+ these days.

I wont speak much on the NSX. Its insanely out dated body design leaves me with zero interest in anything else it could offer.

Build thread in my sig. For $10k, how did I do (from the first pictures)? Too high, too low, about right?

Gmonsen, I'm not knocking the RX-7 just sharing what I believe the market is for them and why.

I also don't like to knock other cars that may have better characteristics just because my favorite is the RX-7. It fits like a glove and is the most exciting vehicle I've driven. It's sickening to see all of the LS conversions going on, guess you can't stop it but it's so degrading to do to such a rare car.

i saw a road racing supra last time we were at the track, first time in my life! and i may not leave the house much, but when i do it is to go to the race track.

so just to beat the dead horse, i've seen 13 Ferrari GTOs parked together, i've seen two GTO's at one stop light in traffic, 5-7 Bugatti royales, um everything in the Porsche, and Jaguar museums running around the track (917's, all the c/D/E types). Mazda started bringing the 787B to events starting in 97-98, so i've seen it just about every year since, sometimes twice*. i've been there when every trans am car comes over the crest at laguna seca**, i've seen every year make and model of Rx7 at the track, and then there is the miata, there are so many of these that we are running THREE of them total this year.

and how many supras? one. (1). i've seen more smart cars on the track than that, or Golf diesels....

*the 787B is just about my favorite, its like an old friend, it ALWAYS looks great on camera. they also haven't restored it, they rebuilt the engine, but the outside still has all the bumps and nicks from 1991, which is really cool, the Jags are all over restored (and slower!).

**if you get the chance to see the trans am cars run, do it, 30 open header v8's makes the ground shake

You did good, if it is a clean title. Depending on what you want to do, if you sell all of those aftermarket parts you will have enough money to do an awesome twin turbo build (basically take it back to stockish) and have some money left over for body work. Nice job though.

Well said and I agree

It remains to be seen how high prices of nice FDs will go but as I've said time and time again there's no arguing whether the FD will be a collector car because it already is.

Of those three cars mentioned I know which one is the deal of the century so how long that last is anyone's guess

The fact that a supra is selling for 80k is just one more reason the 996 GT3 will be the next expensive 911.

What do you think the 25 year rule would do the FD values? I'm betting that the next 10 years will see an importation boom of JDM 90's sports cars. They are the last of an automotive era, and all the Gran Turismo players (like me!) will be looking to get their hands on their favorite cars - even if they're RHD. Guys like Doug DeMuro at Jalopnik are already bringing importation attention to the enthusiast community with their imported R32's. As long as they can keep it legit, they stand to make good money on importing JDM cars and increasing supply. Then there is a parts issue...

^^+1000 Wel said and yet many of the stepping stone people return. Go figure

We've had these kinds of threads as far as I can remember. In the past, the threads primarily contained two camps. One camp states the prices will rise and the FD will be a collectible while the other camp says 'no way because rotary, no reliability, blah, blah' insert whatever reason they don't like about the FD here. This thread is not really much of difference except that the prices HAVE risen and the car is a collectible and yet people still say "not really because blah blah". I said many times before and I'll say it again. I knew ths car was a collectible and something that would appreciate in value within the first 100 yards of driving one. No question. I test drove quite a large variety of cars even the so reveered turbo supra. Didn't compare, FD just drove better and therefore the FD was what I purchased.

Ten years ago there was a quite a large camp of nay sayers about the FD even rising in value. I told them back them that they would eat their words and now I have one question for them: Do ya'll need some water to help wash it down?

Nothing. RHD =/ LHD. Think of it as a low milage FD vs a highmilage one, one is very sought after the other not so much.

Double edge sword. I had my car prior to FnF and it was glorious... No one knew the car, it was like this awesome little secret. However given that FnF, need for speed, Gran Turismo, ect all glorified the FD and therefore kids grew up fantasizing about it. Now everyone knows what this car is however it also appreciates the value.

I love FF and everything it stands for because I love cars

Are the movies complete idiotic fluff yep but it's car fluff so I'll take it LOL

I think the FF movies have been great for all cars in general. It's amazing how much dudes love cars or maybe I should say loved because the new gen doesn't seem quite as enthusiastic about cars they seem to me to be more into phones/tech instead.

Soon the Iphone 4 will be a collectible and cars will be obsolete.

FF is the reason Supra prices skyrocket.

I think the supra and the FD would be pretty much where they are without the FF movies but I'm glad that FF appreciated those cars.

Car enthusiast are born that way. There is a special car gene that some folks have and others don't. If you have it you will gravitate toward great cars and if you don't you will be perfectly happy driving a Prius or your car is no different than your tooth brush.

Are you guys looking at the prices they're listed for, or the prices they're selling at?

I mean, the latter is the only one that matters, as far as knowing whether or not "ITS HAPPENING!!!"

I don't agree with you, here. Supras, in particular, are going for absurd prices. I'd love to have one, but I cannot pay the FF/GT tax on them. If I could, however, get one for a reasonable price from competing importers (which I feel is a certainty) in the near future, I'd definitely go for it. Even if it's RHD. I'm also betting I'm not the only one that feels this way.

I've been buying and selling them for 15 years and the supply is down and the price is up which is sort of how it works if something has value.

Again like Gordon said; you own the car so are you denying your 95 has a higher value than it did 5 years ago or do you agree with us? The answer lies within

I'm not sure what either of you guys is saying

A RHD imported car may slightly affect the value of beat up US import cars that would be in the same price range but pristine LHD cars will be the desired car and you will still have to pay to play with them.

I'll definitely scoop up some import part cars if it works out economically for me but I don't want to drive one.

Great question.
I went to Kelly Blue Book and Edmunds for appraisal/value of a loaded 1995 and I stack the deck with a 35K miles, in Exellent condition and the market value comes at:
$16,316 on KBB
$12,083 on Edmunds
So, to answer your question, I think the later and not that high either, to bring the average car to a significantly higher value status.
A one off good pristine sale, does not influence a whole pack, example:
A Babe Ruth baseball card when he was a rookie, there are only 2 known of and IIRC, I read they are valued at $100K. So, if we reprint them exactly the same, does it means the new cards are worth $100K???
Think here of the untouched FD (Old Babe Ruth Ruth card) vs. the single turbo modified average car (reprints).

I wouldn't go by KBB or Edmunds value on this, I would like to see an actual transaction for a 95 with 35k for 16.5k.
