Intercoolers... Greddy or M2
From what I've read M2 is probably the best smic? But how about the Greddy? The Greddy price is a lot more appealing. And do either come with any sort of box that directs air from the front facia directly through the intercooler so it's not as effected by the heat of the radiator?
Thanks
Chuck

yes ... i know the greddy comes with a nice aluminum box that directs air through it ... no clue on the M2.
I actually like the look of the M2 intercoolers ... mainly the large one. Just looks nice. But the greddy is what i have on my car and it's cool.

the greddy gets what I like to call the mod befor you do the right mod comment..... "you didnt get that little greddy did you?"
I was going to get the greddy..its so affordable in comparison...its just too small for me. If you arent running high boost or modding the hell out of your machine it will do fine I am sure.

GReddy is pretty close to stock fitting (some piping changes I think), the M2 needs a little more work to get it installed (I believe).

I LOVE the M2 IC's but I gotta ask.......for the money they want for it ($1500 beans) isnt a Greddy 2 row FMIC($950) a better way to go??? I mean we're talking $550 difference here and no matter how you look at it ALOT of ppl will tell ya you shld of gone w/ the FMIC.
ANYONE?
In terms of SMIC vs SMIC, I dont think they even compare just by looking at the size difference.

I'm sure I'll get shot down on this one, but I'm using the GReddy SMIC on my single-turbo ~350rwhp setup.
I specifically asked RP about using the not-so-large IC in my particular setup. One phrase was uttered by them -
"Diminishing returns."
Size means nothing after a certain point. Now I'm not pretending to know when the diminishing returns begin, where the peak surface area is, etc. I just trust RP to give me the right advice on these things.
If anyone *does* have information on this, I'd love to see it. And I'm not talking about how much airflow, or surface area an IC provides. I'm talking about airflow, SA, and when you stop gaining any significant benefits from a bigger IC.
Physicists, gearheads? Got any idea on this one? Otherwise to me, it's all just "bigger is better".

M2 vs Greddy SMIC
agent712- depends on how you are going to mod your engine and how much air volume you need to address. If you have a monster single turbo, obviously you need more IC cooling capacity. If you have the stock twins- well maybe the GReddy is adequate. If you put too large an IC on in relation to your turbo's output (don't think the M2 medium will do this), you will experience pressure drop, although the cooling capacity will be greater. The GReddy is larger than the stock IC and fits with little banging or cutting. The M2 is larger yet but will require some more work to fit properly. There is a table someone on the forum did with the interior volumes of the major manufacturer's ICs which compares stock to GReddy, Blitz, M2, Pettit, etc. I have had the GReddy SMIC for about two years and have been satisfied so far. I don't routinely do drags, but run 14 psi. If I decide to upgrade further, I probably will go with either a FMIC or one of the monster SMIC which require removing the stock air box and carrying the battery on your passenger's lap.
enuttage- that point of dimishing returns would be great to know. If you put the air volume from a twin or single turbo into an IC with the volume of an aircraft hanger, it would probably cool it perfectly, but there would be no boost pressure. There must be some sweet spot where you get the most bang for the buck.

I'm still *very* curious about this. And BTW, it's nice to know that someone else using the GReddy at 14psi is happy with it. I'll be running right about that level also, if I can ever get the A/C fixed and then break the damn thing in.

neo omega, please e mail me the details about your intercooler and how much you want for it.
Basically, I want to do put on the best bang for my buck intercooler wise. I don't want to spend a fortune, and don't want to put something on that isn't going to make that big of a difference either. I'm really torn between the M2 and Greddy... I really would like to see some hard numbers of how much better the M2 medium smic is than the Greddy smic.
Thanks
Chuck
