instructions for PFS intercooler?
I just got a PFS intercooler from a guy in town...
I don't have any instructions, and am sorta lost. I know how it goes in, but it does not seem to mount to anything, and that just can't be right. Also, do you have to use the PFS intake with their IC? I have the Apexi one, and I was told that any of the exposed intakes would work just fine..... anyone have any ideas?

i have a pettit stage 2 IC, stock mount, and the thing just simply hooks into the IC piping, respectively, and rests on the steel crossmember directly under it. however, if the crossmember was NOT there, it still think that it would be ok. i also have a duct for my cooler......do you? this could also add in the extra stability that you might need....

everything is mounting fine now except I can't fit my intake....
am I missing something, or does the Apexi intake (and others probably) simply not fit with this IC? I think I might be able to modify my Apexi intake, but it would be a major pita..... how is the PFS intake?

The PFS IC is meant to work w/ the PFS intake.. it connects directly to the 2.75" tube off the side of the duct. Its a fine street system. Many folks don't like the fact that the intake draws air away from the IC. I modified my PFS intake to draw air from beside the rad. as well like the M2 etc. ... I plugged the passage in the duct for a while, made no diff in temps. I run it open now, it may not help the IC, but i've gone one HELL of an intake now. I've seen the Apex intake, and i imagine that the filter that curves to the drivers side is hitting? Might be too much trouble to fix. Most any "open filter" intake is the same as the next.. just get a pettit or greddy or something. OR get the farrel... i've seen 'em used pretty cheap. I'm surprised whoever sold you the IC didn't just give it to you...

I never thought to ask the guy who I got the IC from about aftermarket intake fitting... it never crossed my mind that it might not... the PFS leaves very little place on the passenger side, so I have my doubts that any of the external type air filters will fit.... I might be wrong here... is the Apexi larger then most?

From what i've seen of the apex, one of the two filters angles in... right? Or is that the RE Amemiya? I've seen others that are more compact. I'd look for a PFS. If you get one, PM me and i'll email you the template and diagram for the mod i did to it. (its at work)
Also, i believe i've seen someone using a PFS IC w/ a pettit intake...

You can call PFS and ask him (he returned my call last year)
I've seen a couple posts from people that bought the intake alone and now a couple that bought the SMIC alone but it is supposed to be a kit.
Drawbacks: yes the intake can suck hot air from the IC in between shifts and/or at idle but the stock setup does "exactly" the same thing. In the '99+ the ducting is chambered seperately for the intake.
Anyhow, you want to plug up that piping (hole) for the IC's duct if you don't get the matching intake to connect it with. I learned the hard way, you have to "force" air through the IC or heat soak.

you had a few issues with PFS but yet you run his sytem and have not complained about so it is safe to say that his parts are made of high quality? also did you call Peter to squared away?

I know you love his sytem because it worked great for me and never had any complaints other than it is a tight fit but it works good
