Question Inconsistent Oil Pressure Reading

My oil pressure reading stays at 30 some of the time, irregardless of how much load the engine is under. This may occure for the entire day I have the car out. At startup it goes up to 120 and at idle it falls to near 0.

Is this normal for the pressure to remain at 30 irregardless of the engine load?

Thanks,
Marc

Nope, that's not normal.

Check your oil pressure sender. It tends to get dirty and send inconsistant readings, or just fail altogether.

I would try cleaning it first, then lastly replacing it.

i changed out my instrument cluster and noticed a fairly significant change in my op gauge readings(they dropped across the board). i would check the sender first...but the gauge could also be problematic.

This is a very common problem the oil preassure senders seems to wear out every 30k or so on these cars. Do a search on Oil preassure sender, im sure you will get some good info.

Anybody wanna give me a quick location on the oil press sender?? I'm not too sure where it is but when I have my engine lifted this weekend to change the oil pan gasket I wanna pull out the sender and clean it off. I'm getting crazy press readings too!! Thanx.

Right below the oil filter mount. It's the BIG damn thing sticking out the side of the engine. It might have a rubber boot over it, or might just be the gold-ish color if not. there will be a single female spade connector attatched.

What is really something is the first 7 years I've had my '94 rx7, I didn't change the oil sender once. In the last 2 years, I've had it changed 3 times.
