Ignition Install (write up/pix)
Looking back on all the problems i have encountered in this install, and seeing what 13 years and a replaced motor will do to an rx7, i thought it would be most useful of me to do a writeup on my most recent install.
I picked up a Jacobs FC1000 ignition amp, along with an FC coil from a seller on rx7club. and some Jacobs 8.5mm plug wires. I'm just going to mention that the quality of the Jacobs FC1000 is unmatchable, the harness is very well designed but my only complaint is it being so damnd big.
i started off this install by trying to find a spot to mount the monsterous FC1000 amp. I was thinking of all these silly ways to mount it, then i had a suggestion from someone on the boards and this is what i came up with
OK, so now that the FC1000 is in place, time to wire it up. I followed the directions carefully and listend to a few people on the forum who have done the install before. I started by wiering up the direct 12v power and ground to the battery
after that i wondered where i would mount the coil. I took out the stock mounting bracket for the OE coils, and modified it with a hacksaw and demal, i drilled a few holes in it and secured it.
On to the wiring. For the basic install of this, pretty much you cut the clip off the stock harness for the Leading coil and install the wires accordingly, red/black to the red wire to the red/black, and the green wire to the yellow/black. With that being done correctly we then hooked the + and - connectors to the coil itself. here is a look at the way it was wired up.
With that being done so, we checked for spark. NONE... racked our heads for some ideas, we tryed making another ground, thinking ground was the issue, no luck, we assumed the coil was bad, we took the coil out and grounded it, put a spark tester on, and jumped it using the battery (do at your own risk, could be harmful). the coil made good spark so we threw it back on. Assuming the Jacobs unit was bad, we wired the coil back up using the stock harness. STILL NO LUCK!. after further inspection, the wire comming from the ignition seemed to have been repaired. i double checked the voltage with a multi meter, and it seemed good for the red and green wires. BUT everything leaded up to one of them being bad. So i picked the ignition switch one b/c the wire looked the most tampered with. I found where it ran to on the ignitor (light blue/black wire), and ended up splicing in my own wire directly to it
from then on i hooked it up to the green wire, and re attached the red wire
Having the coil bracket out of the car, i tested the coil using the FC1000 with the new wiring i did, VOILA! i have spark. i routed all the wires the way i wanted them and continued putting the car back together. I stopped brifly for my good palls at UPS, and got 2 of these in the mail
thanks Will, how badass
almost looks stock
next on the list, is to tackle the harness for the headlights. (i didnt install those). PM me with questions

Why would you bother to go through all of this when you could've used the HKS unit? I hope you're going to do something about all those wires, not a fan of a bunch of wires running all over the place.

if you read more carefully, the bunch of wires running all over the place was the ******** previous owners attempt to wire up those headlights, and are next on my shitlist. and i didnt go with the HKS unit b/c this one costed about 300$ cheaper, and is a CDI, insted of a wasted spark
