then, buy a same year model make from a junk yard, get a salvage title, switch over the vin tags, etch the junk cars vin in the engine compartment.wait six months and tell the bmv you restored the car, and get a title for it. home free

Thats with an old handheld unit, recently my dad bought a new touchscreen one again made by garmin, it dosent even have an antenna and it gets better reception than this one. As the owner of 3 GPS systems and user of many more, all I can say is that if you go under a tree and lose signal you got ripped. I dont think GPS in a car for alarm reasons is in any way useful, Im just defending the technology

Much of a GPS unit's accuracy and ability to gain a triangulation is dependent upon its antenna (all GPS units require an antenna; your dad's touchscreen Garmin simply doesn't have an antenna that folds out or extends), its receiver, and its software. Most of the later GPS units can utilize ground-based augmentation systems to help with triangulation when a decent view of the sky isn't available, but that affects the accuracy. GPS needs at least some view of the sky; if you were to shut your Garmin off, travel 5 miles to a house somewhere, and then turn it back on while sitting in the middle of a house with very little view of the sky, you will not gain any triangulation (and thus positioning). The unit I tested obviously had a very primitive GPS setup, which was pretty disappointing.
... its like more than a week later, and I still can't believe how easy it was to "break" into my FD.
No tools required.
jeez, a 12 year old could do it. Probably easier than me..
if you are really worried about someone towing away your FD, well, wow. I think there are about 10,000 better/more expensive/etc cars than FD's around here, I just don't see why anyone would bother with one, sure they're no toyota but in the parts resale market they're no ferarri either.

ECU harness adapter inline between ECU and engine harness. User-specific wiring pattern coming into this adapter harness which duplicates the standard pin in<>pin out to ECU pattern - but the user modifies the engine side of harness by pushing pins out and rerouting. Add a set of 8 relays and/or simple dipswitches on key leads + a couple of less key leads and they've got about 256 patterns to try. Thief pulls the entire inline harness out and goes straight ECU to engine harness and it won't work worth a damn (custom routing on engine harness entry side will not map correctly to ECU side anymore).
