I'm wondering if anyone has specific experience to compare these two oils. Redline to me is the leader in high performance oil but maybe Idemitsu has an additive package specifically for rotaries that would make it more important than the high quality of Redline?

Redline in rotaries, personally didnt like any of the redline product from the previous owner (notching shift points cold or warm).

Idemitsu or Neo would be better. I highly recommend Neo as it transformed my transmission shift-smoothness during cold start and warmed up.

Would never put anything else other than Neo in my FD.

+1 for Neo. I noticed a huge difference in cold weather vs conventional fluid

 

I think the op is referring to premix for the engine.

Redline is great. It synthetic which allows good injectors flow and not leave a gummy residue.

Both are great premix in my opinion. Can't go wrong either way.

 

if its premix, i'd still take idemitsu over redline.

Redline has a higher flash point, but idemitsu was designed for use as rotary premix. Hard to say which is better without having housing wear data for the two oils, and without having much experience with either. But, they are both high quality premixes. Gut instinct is that you would not be dissatisfied with either.

 

Ok what about with regards to 20w50 engine oil?

 

I use redline synthetic racing oil for my 2-cycle premix. haven't used it long enough to have a good opinion. I also have the RA adaptor and running it through my OMP injectors for more lube. I premix 4-5oz per tank.

40605 is the # I use.

 

Idemitzu and Protek-R brands are magic rotary oils.

 

I use castrol NON synthetic 20w50. Fairly priced and I oil change every 2500-3000 miles.

No need for full synthetic. However if you want to use full synthetic, I recommend using royal purple.

Reason I choose other brands over redline is I personally run a shop and I've had used redline, valvoline, pyroil, eneos, amsoil, mobil1 and etc etc.

I had most complaint with redline, and either it was already in customer's car when it came in OR when we put those in customer noticed a difference and came back to us.

So I am just speaking from experience, not simply I used JDM stuff and think they are better.
