I Need new Tires
Hi
I'm looking for some suggestions for what type of Tires to get for my 93. Putting them on the original rims. I live in Florida, lots of rain!
Bought it about a year ago. In the middle of restoring it now, just got it running again, it was sitting outside uncovered for about 6-7 years, only has 25k miles on it. Going back all original as I can. I'm not trying to get it perfect just really nice. Any suggestions on Tires will be appreciated. I have to buy some Friday. This won't be a daily driver, just to car shows & the occasional pleasure cruise.
Thanks
Ron

If your looking for just standard tire recommendations I would just read reviews on tire rack for the size you’re looking for and go from there. Standard tires are standard tires TBH. If you’re looking for performance tires, that’s a different story and lots of people will have their two cents about them.

I second Tire Rack. I’d look for Summer Performance tires and look at reviews. You won’t be putting a lot of miles on so wear ratings won’t be that important. But look for input on wet performance as well as handling. Also agree with Matt in the recommendations. Different needs, driving styles, sizes, suspensions and other subjective qualities....like asking what’s the best beer. That said, a good set of fresh rubber really wakes the car up and adds to the fun.
FWIW, your post said stock 8” FD wheels. The stock size was 225/50/16 but I ran 245/45/16 for years. A bit more contact, looked better IMO, fit fine on an 8” wide wheel and the speedometer was essentially unchanged.

I would see if they have Bridgestone tires in your size, they were the OEM tire on most of the FD's and are a quality Japanese tire. I hate seeing clean FD's with some bobo tires on them.
You are best served going to Tire Rack or Discount Tire and looking for a quality tire. If you go to your local tire shop they usually only have pretty crappy brands. Had a buddy with an RX-8 that had "FIERCE" brand tires on it.

If you go with 225/50/16, there are a lot more choices... I have the RE71s I mentioned above in 225/50/16 on my FC, and they are a great tire... Good on the street, fun on track days. Being a soft tire, they wear faster, so probably not a good choice for a daily driver, or if you live in a cold climate as most summer tires don't do well in the cold.... But since you say it is a weekend car, and it looks like you live in FL, they would be a great choice.

I have firestone indy 500’s on aftermarket 18” wheels. They are rebranded bridgestones for the american market. This is my 2nd set, i’ve also recommended them to others with various different cars and theyve loved them. They are not an ultimate performance tire and thats why I like them. They wont wear out in 10k miles, they are good in the rain, they’re quiet, and they’re sticky enough for what I do with my car. Really good all around tire. There are many reviews of them on tire rack that will tell you the same. Just not sure if theyre available in stock sizes.

I always recommend Sam's Club for tire purchases. They can usually order you anything and will price match anyone but they are usually priced the same or lower. The installation is only $15 each and includes road hazard which is usually an extra $15 each.
They also don't dish out the same crap as other national tire centers when it comes to having to make a road hazard or warranty claim. I used to work at one and we did several "mileage" warranty claims for customers which is almost unheard of in the industry since you have to prove the car was serviced regularly and properly aligned. Most were no questions asked - if you didn't hit 30k miles as claimed we prorated a discount on a new set. I worked at a several different nationwide chains (similar in name to "infernorock" and "gears") and they weasled out of every claim possible.

Agree on the recommendation for Firestone Indy 500s. Great performance tire at a reasonable price point.
Cost not a concern, Michelin Pilot Sports.

Thanks for all the input, it's very appreciated.
I'm in Florida so cold weather isn't really an issue.
I'm leaning towards the either the Firestone Indy 500 or the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+
I need the tires asap & the Michelin is available asap so the Michelin may be the winner! Unfortunately the Michelin is about $200 more for the set.
Right now I'm sticking with the Stock rims just to keep it stock, Iwe'll see how long that last!

Either one should be good – I would go with the Michelin A/S 3+ as they should handle well and give you some flexibility if you drive out of state in varying weather conditions.
I'm running on Michelin Pilot Super Sports and I'm very happy with them for street driving, but they are priced as a premium product (and superseded by the Pilot Sport 4S).
You're doing the right thing, in my opinion. The car will probably need a lot more money and time in other areas – the Michelin Pilot A/S 3+ will serve you more than adequately while you're fixing the car.

In addition, they are asymmetric, not directional, so you can rotate them around the car as you please. Link: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...omCompare1=yes

Thanks for all the input, I really appreciate it. Got some really good info on FD Tires. Due to availability & time constraints I opted to go with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ They have the best ratings where I want the best ratings..
Next, I'm going to be looking for Shocks!

I have to admit that the price I got was super - I'm a Firestone retiree, so with my retiree discount and $50-off sale price, they were $285 ($71.25 ea) with road hazard warranty in Nov. 2016. Sure can't beat that!

Both My 1993 FD RX-7s are Daily Drivers.
I drive them every chance I get.
I too have the stock RIMS on both my cars and am perfectly fine with the stock 225 / 50 / ZR16
On My Blue RX-7 The handling in unbelieveable - Honestly - I've never driven a better handling car. It handles extremely well.
However - On My Red RX-7 I knew it could do better - For a long time I did extensive research - Yes - I could have gone 17" or higher - But I really like the stock look of the factory rims.
So just this past summer - I decided to go with a bigger offset.
I decided to go with the Yokohama 245 / 45 / R16 Summer Only Performance.
These tires are like glue - I made an excellent decision.
Hoping I can help you here - With your decision here are some pictures.
Here are some pictures when I had 225 / 50 / ZR16.
And here are some pictuers with the Yokohama 245 / 45 / R16 Summer Only Performance.

And Finally - Here are some pictures of 225 / 50 / ZR16 on my Blue RX-7. These are BFGoodRich Summer Only Tires.
Few more items I will add - On my red RX-7 I have the SIKKY Suspension Front and Rear With the Stiffest Setting and believe me - It makes a big difference.
I also have Spacers on both cars.

Your cars look great, by the way.
Is either one set up for drifting?
