Exclamation Huge puddle of gasoline under FD

When I got home this afternoon, I noticed a strong fuel smell coming from the FD. It hadn't been driven in 3 days. I looked underneath it and saw a HUGE puddle. Gasoline was steadily dripping onto the driveway.

Popped the hood and lit a cigarette (jk ). I couldn't see well from above, even with a flashlight, so I put it on jackstands and looked underneath. The rear bottom of the engine, bellhousing and crossmember were soaked. Driver's side was fairly dry. The rear passenger side of the engine was wet, and it seemed to come from above.

other clues:
-no flooded engine
-worse when car sits undriven
-not noticeable when running

So...any guesses before I start removing stuff tomorrow?

Usual culprit is the Fuel Pulsation Dampner...My recommendation to you is not drive it till you get it fixed...so many people drive their car with that broken then in the end have a flame encrusted FD...the FPD is below the rats nest and right beside the injectors...IF that's the culprit it may be a good time to do your hose job if you haven't already...You will have to take off the upper manifold to see it. If you want to see some photos of what it looks like search for a thread called "Hose Job: Broke Some Stuff" that I started late last year...the FPD (if that's your problem) cost around $100 but the labour is a bitch...anyway, good luck dude!

Here is the thread apneablue was talking about:
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=129174

Usually the FPD only leaks under pressure (i.e. when the fuel pump is running). I'm thinking you have a cracked fuel line. Either way, you should take off the UIM (Upper Intake Manifold) and poke around with a flashlight to check out all of the fuel lines and connections. Taking off the UIM is no biggie, but if your fuel lines are shot, then your coolant lines might be decrepit as well. Also, if you are using stock vacuum lines, then they will likely have hardened from the gasoline. In other words, this could be a big job, but you can definately do it yourself if don't mind the huge pain in the ***. To prevent more fuel leakage, you should loosen the gas cap to prevent pressure from building up inside the tank.

If you look in this thread and look down to the pic that shows the rats nest rehosed...
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=155418

look to the left of the blue connector on one of the solenoids. you will see a round object under the wiring harness... thats the FPD
Good luck

also might want to consider removing the UIM, short out the diagnostic pins for GRND and F/P

this should run your fuel pump with the key in the on position, this way you can find the source of the leak....good luck

the diagnostic box is near the battery and the cap says DIAGNOSTIC
